Sherwood probably spent enough time watching Bergkamp at Highbury so he should know.

couldnt help feeling a little sad today though watching liverpool edge closer to the title and thinking with a better more dynamic manager it could have been us??
just a note on the podolski substitution...if i were him and got taken off instead of a palyer not even up to pub team standard (sanogo, sorry but he will never make it) i would be packing my suitcase that very evening

That pub team player contributed significantly more than your boy pod.

Hes had 6 starts for his new club, 80% in high pressure games.

Youngsters being castigated for not being instantly WC is a standard trend nowadays down the Arsenal.

If you take out the whole 'should have bought a striker' angst to his performance, you'd probably have noticed he got himself into some great positions but like most youngsters starting out, he was too eager to take his chances.

I remember when Song was never going to make it

Ramsey was done after the leg break

Heard stories about Adams mixed start to his career

id give him a few more games before writing him off

firstly i'm not a pod fan i think he contributes far too little but the decision to take him off and leave on sanogo was a personal thing between pod and wenger and not a footballing decision? it wasn't just me booing the place down.
secondly i watched tony adams develop from the start when you could pay at the gate and stand on the northbank
it was clear from the start he was going to be an international and gooners legend.
i stood by ramsey and theo when ppl wanted him out also jack who i believe in
also i would add players like merson anelka fabby etc who though raw at first always had a certain x factor where you just knew they would be something special...
At arsenal we are desperate for a new striker-messiah and sanogo isnt it is he?
i feel a bit sorry for him because he should never have been exposed in the first team and the fact he was our only forward aquired in 2 windows was unforgivable....i have indeed written him off but i can only go on what my own eyes tell me.

Fair due on Pod, dont know what happened with that massive gap in my post btw.

I dont get the booing. Podolski did hardly anything for the time he was on compared to Sanogo who at least got into the position he was supposed to play in. I havent been able to see anything particularly special in him in the limited time ive seen him either, but i still dont think 6 games is enough to decide if a youngster isnt going to make it.

sanogo isnt what we needed this season, but does that mean that the mistakes of AW should then prompt people to compare a kid with under 10 starts to a WC striker we all wanted, then write him off because he isnt a WC striker?

Thats way off imho.

i think the booing was because though pod had done fk all at least there was a half chance of him actually popping up and scoring a goal
where it looked less than likely sanogo would get one?
it may seem harsh on sanogo but if he is given the job as our main striker he has to be rated and judged accordingly regardless of how many times he's played or what his potential might be? i dont want to see the lad destroyed but to play him will harm both him and the team at the mo

It was the right decision to keep sanogo on in my opinion.

Podolski who is meant to be this international was unable to do 1 useful thing against a championship side, 1.

We looked to exploit airial dominance after a while in order to get a goal, and podolski just doesnt fit into that, maybe he could have stayed on instead of santi but not instead of sanogo imo.

I dont think Sanogo did any worse than what Giroud has been doing since his cheating missus story broke tbh. I get that Podolski has that 89 minutes nothing 1 minute everything quality to him, but sometimes, in traffic, his average dribbling skills and lack of real pace to compensate gets him into trouble.

Sanogo on the other hand had some great chances that Carson was equal to and some good chances he created himself by simply trying something. Ultimately, it just wasnt his day imo. From where i was sat, he did everything a striker should be doing: battling for posession, closing opposition, running the lines, playing off the shoulder, trying things to get a shot off. He was just too clumsy/eager or Carson did exactly what a keeper should be doing and did it well.

I get people will wheel out the 'we should have beaten a Championship side comfortably' line, but they are trying their hardest to ignore some key factors going into that game.

Wigan had knocked out a 1billion team to get where they were
Its a Wembley semi, not a pre-season friendly, those players gave their all to battle us
We havent won a trophy in 9 years. A team under the pressure and sheer will to fail from outsiders and a decent portion of our own showed in our play

People bang on about us not having the minerals all the time on here and seem surprised that the whole negative 'specialist in failure' tag weighs heavy on the players out there.

Ramsey shouldnt have been playing 110 minutes
Ox shouldnt have either
Gibbs didnt need the 60 odd minutes so soon after returning
The rest of the team are running on empty trying to cover for 5-6 key players that havent been around for large parts of the season, while the battles we have had this season from the start have taken their toll on a squad that isnt big enough in any case.

Its so frustrating having to argue with people who see all the above as excuses, when all it is is what has actually happened this season.

Of course, in an ideal world, we would have brushed aside Wigan
But in an ideal world we wouldnt have had the injuries we have
We would be able to match 0.6b-1b spending of City and Cheslea
We would be fine with not playing any cup competitions for years and just going for the PL
We would have had more trophies in 9 years so that every turn isnt greeted by hysteria

But its not an ideal world.

i never expected the wgan match to be anything other than what it was, a dour struggle til the end
the cup has no relevance to what has gone before , who you knocked out, league form etc..its on the day that counts and the same will be true of the final..
i agree with most of your arguments but they have more baring on our league collapse than the cup which i think we will win..
i think we will have to agree to disagree on sanogo i think giroud with all his many faults is our only real option and part of our best team as it stands
