They didn't work together so Wenger had to make a decision as to who was better. Gallas was imo

Same time. Wenger probably foresaw Flamini's rise

Ahhh yes but Wenger was bang in the middle of using the captaincy to placate players instead of giving it to the best man for the job.

Cowardly act imo, "See I gave you the captains band so ......... please don't leave us!!" pathetic.

Mertesacker should have the damn band now as it is, really can't have a Captain i.e Verm who A) Never plays and B) wants out of the team.

In fact that band is cursed, give it to Mert and he'll prob leave next season as well, no wonder Wenger has given it to a bench player lol.

Why are people of this opinion. When's he ever shown he's desperate to win it. He seems fine just qualifying for it and accepting the defeat vs top team every season

He always said it's the trophy he'd most like to win.

We should give the captain's band to Giroud. :hiding:

Arsenal Captain's Armband + #9 Jersey - both are cursed.

Strange that he dealt with the Napoli game so poorly

We attempted to rest players but still started Ozil, Giroud, Ramsey; and left Theo who hadn't started in months on the bench in a game where we needed a goal. Very poor handling of the tie.

Yeah I've noticed that Wenger has been using a medium between completely resting a team and playing the full first team. If it works great, if not than it's a complete waste of playing the first team players. I've probably never been angrier at Wenger after that Napoli loss tbf because I knew for a fact we'd lost that City match before it began.

We were the better team in the first 20min because we highly overpaced.
No way we could have played like that for 90min they would have killed us cause of tired legs in the 2nd half.

Disagree, or at least with the tone of your post. It's quite a common tactic these days to press and play with incredible intensity for periods of the match then recover, then up the intensity, then recover etc. Sure, we couldn't keep that up for 90 minutes...but you don't need to, that's not the point of it.

Don't forget that you hit 45 min and you get a rest as well.

The key was to score when we were on top and then when you have your recovery period keep the game tight until your next intensity period. We failed in that we missed the pen but having said that Bayern's period also lacked a goal.

In fact, I was very impressed and think we should play this way ALL the time.
Go Cannons!!

It's really not a stupid rule. If it wasn't a red, you'd see this kind of tackle every game. If the defender knows they're going to score, why not bring them down and take the yellow and hope the penalty is saved/missed? There's really very little to lose from doing that. Players are more than happy to take a yellow just to stop a counter attack, they'd definitely be happy to take one if it stopped a goal.

A yellow and a penalty would be enough in my book. It just seems a little too harsh the goal down and being down to ten men.
