If Podwas playing cf, he would have been in girouds position.

Its exactly why we need a st and pod should stay where he is

What do you mean mate?

If your playing CF and there is a striker on the pitch your playing behind the ST.

Podolski has stated his favourite position is CF, same position as Bergkamp and RVP after he moved off the wing.

Because we play 4-2-3-1 Podolski play's on the wing, he could sit behind Giroud that's why Caz and Pod used to rotate back last season but Wenger prefer's a CAM there.

Caz was terrific at CAM, needs to be played back there.

Pod doesnt have the passing range to play AM/CF imho. Others may disagree, but for me hes more classic winger leaning towards striker than winger midfielder. I can see him beating offside traps against a high line, but ive never been impressed with his game in traffic.

for me, him shooting with a bit of time, but from inbetween the midfield and defence is his optimal territory.

Regarding that original post, I meant that if pod played up top today in our formation, he would have been expected to be pushed up on the CBs like giroud was in that situation more often than not.

He would have been the one laying off the ball to someone else and theres no one better in the squad than him to take that shot.

We should just give Podolski a free role to roam around. He can score from anywhere and that is what we need.

Just watched the whole game. We were poor for 60 mins and Podolski coming on seemed to change the game.

Its as if the team have been trained to pass-pass-pass and Podolski had to sit through an hour of that rubbish and thought f' it I'm going to shoot on sight! I love Podolski!

It's quiet interesting to read some "performance stats" from football websites even if they are not perfect tools they at least give you an idea what happened on the pitch. Nearly everyone in the offensive and left side had average ratings until the 60min mark after that they all raises massive f.e. Özil from 15 to 50 within 10min., Cazorla from 43 to 82, Walcott from 8 to 88 :P and Gibbs from 4 to 23.

No way. Could've been 3-0 up with a better f***ing striker.

Giroud is ruining our ability do destroy teams. No coincidence it's when he was good (Norwich) was one of the few times we took a team to the sword.

How many clear cut chances did he have?

The only clear cut chance I saw whas when Theo was put through and fluffed it.

We had loads of possession but did nothing with it - I call that poor!

You do realise Giroud has only scored about 3 goals when put through one-on-one. Cutbacks are supposedly his forte; and also count as clear chances.

We didn't do anything with it because like I said, we have a donkey upfront.

Hey there PG and a happy new year.

Clearcut Chances.

1. It depends on whether you count his shot whcih he put wide with only the keeper facing him as a clearcut chance after about 30 mins

2. It depends on whether you count the fact he didn't stick a leg out from the cross by Sagna from the right as a chance (or was that the Walcott chance?)

3. Also, it depends on whether you count the chance he missed from 3 yards when the cross came over from Gibbs on the left in the 45th minute.

Anyway, I thought he missed two sitters. As a CF he should have scored one of them. He hasn't scored since November whcih is an appalling run of form.

But none of those above count as chances missed, then he didn't miss anything.

IMO, we had loads of possession, gave chances to Giroud and he did nothing with them.

Second half, wenger got very lucky in that Ramsay was injured, he brought on Pod and we ripped WHU apart on both sides for the remainder of the game.

All together now - "Lukas Podolski - he scores when he plays"

Bang on mate, playing on the left allows him to roam into the areas in between the lines and still get crosses in because after all he is our most winger-like player IMO without reducing the amount of creativity in the team.
