World cup begins on Thursday 12th June.

England's World Cup exit

Postby UFGN » Sun Jun 22, 2014 10:46 pm

There is no surprise we didn't win the world cup. No shock horror there. But really, the indifference shown by most people and even media in reaction to England's earliest exit ever from a world cup is notable in itself.

The tears, drama, and post mortums of previous tournaments, particulary 02, 06 and European Championships from around that time has given way to barely a shrug of the shoulders.

Im no better than anyone else, I feel it too, but really shouldn't we give more of a shit that we got knocked out so early that game three is a dead rubber? About 130 professional clubs, one of the biggest and oldest footballing infestructures in the world, and this is the best we can do?

We didn't have the players imo.

At the back, baines and jagielka lack 'big game experience' and cahill is still learning his trade.

The world cup came a couple of years too early for henderson, wilshere and barkley.

Plus we missed the pace of walcott, townsend and ox.

Gerrard and Rooney are our only two world class players and they didn't perform - thats the only thing I'd question.

Maybe the next England manager should try the Deschamps approach and take a squad to a tournament, not a group of individuals. If it means leaving out people like Rooney, then so be it.

Used to give a shit back in the 90s and the Sven era. Mclaren killed it for me though plus I f***ing hate Rooney, terry etc so very difficult to cheer them.

Never hated rival players back in the 90s.

We don't have a decent manager unless we go foreign. Players are average at best. No world class players.

We should qualify for tournaments but group stages/first knock out round depending on what group we're in is our level.

I hoped England would get through this summer but didn't expect it but then you see Costa Rica, a country with 1% of our resources that we lost to, it has to be mentally as well

This is shaping up to be a great world cup, and its a shame that England have played virtually no part in it. The next two are in Russia and then The Farce... it feels like possibly the last great international tournament we will see for maybe 20 years.... and we're off home like Cinderella before midnight.

Look at everything we have in this country football wise.... the huge fanbase, hundreds of public pitches, football tought in most schools, thousands of youth football clubs...... and the huge number of professional clubs with all their scouts and coaches.

England's goal should be semis in the Euros and at least the QFs in Russia. But with this loser Woy in charge and the inherent English mentality...

And yes, this is shaping up to be one stellar WC. It's already 10x better than 2010 (the worst in recent memory), and has thrice the excitement and thrills of 2006 and 2002.

Chelsea have a decent defensive season, 3 of their back 4 is English. What do England do? Play 1 and let an inexperienced Baines and Jagielka look like newborn horses. Hodgson should of swallowed some pride and asked John Terry to play.

Why did Luke Shaw go? Could of and should of took Cashley, even if he wasn't gonna start, just for dressing room/tournament experience.

Henderson looked so out of position and was doing a lot of pointless running in the first game? But that apparently warrants him a starting place in the second game. We could of done with Wilshere or even Lampard.

Lampard and Gerrard look terrible together IMO

Lampard and Gerrard look terrible in a 4-4-2, with them both holding, their experienced would have been accepted by all, the back four mainly could have done with this.

The formation was too defensive, why did we need two DM's.

Henderson didn't need to be included, we could of used Jack in an attacking role.

Said it in another topic we played with 6 defenders and 4 strikers, no real full back support, holding players literally stood next to each other, Wilshere integrates midfield and attack, something we lacked.

In fairness England lost two matches that they could have easily won and prob should have drawn. That happens the best two periods in those matches came after England went behind once they equalised they dropped off and went into safety mode and in that mode you can get caught.

Have England the players to win a big Tournament - No
Did England deserve to go further - Prob Yes IMO but it doesnt work like that
Can England fix the problems to compete in the latter rounds of Tournaments - Yes
Will England shake up the Juvenille Foundations holding them Back - I.e 10-15 Year Project - No
Will they ever win a Euros / World Cup - On the Current Set Up from Underage up - No.

Roy's still got his W.Brom hat on, defending like a pussy and hoping a counter or two might win him the game.

Terry should of been included
Formation was to bottom heavy
Lampard>>>Gerrard
LOL @ Welbeck even getting in the squad

Ah well roll on Russia 2016
