Best and worst World Cups you've seen?

Postby Cripps » Thu Mar 13, 2014 12:24 pm

Best - italia 90. I remember watching the cup final that year which ended 3-3 with a certain Ian Wright scoring 2 and I as a 7 year old youngster just got interested enough to watch the World Cup that summer. The rest as they say is history. Pavarotti, England actually doing well, gazzas tears, Cameroon winning the hearts of the world etc Got me hooked on to the sport.

Worst - more difficult choice this. Contenders are USA 94 or South Africa 2010. I'd have the 2002 one as well but that Brazilian side was awesome. England not being at USA 94 meant it had to go some to gain my interest still being just a kid then. Yes it holds the world cups greatest ever goal by Al Owairan for Saudi Arabia v Belgium and also Romania v Argentina and Brazil v holland but the rest was terrible. 2010 has possibly the worst winners of a World Cup ever, scoring the least goals and a big reason why tippy tappy is so prominent these days and also why football is so boring. If I had to choose, I'd go 2010

2010 was boring as shit. People were saying Spain's football was excellent... it was painful to watch. Score one and play keepy off for the rest of the game.

This.

Best would be 1998 perhaps. The Final of Italia 1990 was APPALLING.

2010 was awesome as I'm South African. I agree the football was terrible but when it's in your home country there is such a vibe

1990 was best, whichever one we didn't qualify was worst!

Worst:
*2002 - the worst/most suspect refeering i've ever seen on during an international tournament
*2010 - extremely irritating vuvuzelas, poor refereeing, had the potential to be a much better world cup than it turned out to be

Best:
*1998 - This world cup had so many brilliant games, world class teams, tons of goals, beautiful goals, late, match deciding goals, lots of twists and turns, etc... just the best and most exciting world cup i've seen so far.

My first was 2002. When I look back, it probably was worst in terms football but Turkey was in and we got 3rd place so it was exciting. I was 10. Best was 2006. Zidane made it a great history.

1998, the year or the year before I started following France and became a gooner, was a great tournament and extra sweet because France took it and I got to watch some gunners win a trophy.

2006 was great. 2002 was the first I watched, and I was only 8 back then, so yeah... 2010 wasn't good.

I guess 1998 on pure football terms was the best but 1990 for me gets it for the nostalgia.

Surprised no one has mentioned anything earlier than 1990

Nobody's old enough to remember earlier than 1990!

I've noticed there are a lot of youngsters on here.

Amounts of votes Koscielny has got in the best CB thread is proof
