I am not sure they will have the guts. This is a South American World Cup and Suarez is one the premier South American superstars. I hope they do as he deserves a massive ban.

Will probably ban him for 6 months from international football. So that's his WC over.

They won't ban him from Club competitions.

I'd ban him for life if I were them. If you don't get the point that biting another player is wrong after 3 times, you never will.

Football's governing body Fifa has opened disciplinary proceedings against Uruguay striker Luis Suarez over an alleged biting incident during the World Cup match against Italy.

Liverpool forward Suarez, 27, and the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) have until 17:00 Brazilian time (21:00 BST) on Wednesday to provide evidence.

Suarez clashed with Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini during Tuesday's Group D game, which Uruguay won 1-0.

The referee took no action at the time.

The maximum ban Suarez could face if Fifa takes retrospective action is 24 matches or two years.

Suarez told Uruguayan television: "These are just things that happen out on the pitch. It was just the two of us inside the area and he bumped into me with his shoulder.

"There are things that happen on the pitch and you should not make such a big deal out of them."

Chiellini, 29, described Suarez as "a sneak".

He added: "I'd love to see if Fifa has the courage to use video evidence against him. The referee saw the bite mark, but he did nothing about it."

After the clash between the players, Suarez went to ground holding his mouth, apparently suggesting he had been elbowed.

As Chiellini ran after referee Marco Rodriguez, Uruguay forward Gaston Ramirez attempted to get the Juventus defender to cover his shoulder.

The incident happened shortly before Suarez's team-mate Diego Godin scored the only goal of the game.

Godin's winner means four-time champions Italy finish third in the group, and exit before the knockout stages for the second finals in a row.

Would the ban count in all football games?

It can if they want it to. When Cantona kicked the Palace fan he was banned from all FIFA affiliated games (including internationals and club games).

Doubt the ban will be club football, only international.

The only proven winner in red and white at this club? Arsene Wenger. Sack the board.

That bite might just help Pool keep him imo! Barca and Real won't want to touch him if he's banned for the start of the season.

FIFA bans carry on into club games don't they?

Surely the ban has to be club football to. He's done it 3 times now! I see the funny side to it and he is massively controversial but the mans a disgrace

Anyone remember if Tassotti was banned for club games when he broke Luis Enriquesose back in 1994?

He was banned for 8 games.

I agree. It sounds harsh and it would be a shame to waste that talent, but you have to set a standard. I bet if he wasn't as good as he is then they wouldn't think twice about a ban.
