@ Zed, what interests you?

Mara's list is excellent and profound, but if you're not into those stuff, they'll make you want to commit suicide.

What Jackson said and:

- James Caan ~ Double Indemnity and The Postman Always Rings Twice
- Keigo Higashino - The Devotion of Suspect X (If you're into Jap thrillers); Malice is also good
- Raymond Chandler ~ The Lady in the Lake, Big Sleep, Farewell - all pulpy noirs.

Quick reads all. Devotion is a little long, but it's gripping.

If you're into detective/crime fiction:

I like James H. Chase. Go to Good Reads and read the synopsis of the books and see what might interest you. Not everybody is a fan of the guy though.

If you're into psychological horrors:

- Stephen King ~ The Shining (The first 50 pages are hard to go, but after that it's a roller coaster)

It's been made into a movie, so not sure if you've watched it. Double Indemnity and Postman too.

If you're into dark gothic stuff:

- Oscar Wilde ~ The Picture of Dorian Gray

Be careful of the long prose though. Not quite antiquity, but if you've read classic English novels, this should be a breeze.

Hope this helps.

Love that book. Shame he only ever wrote the one novel - never read any of his plays.

It's 120 years old, so the novelty has worn down, but if you want laugh at silliness and enjoy a quick read - read The Importance of Being Earnest. I couldn't stop laughing.

And, if you want to bore yourself reading about the aesthetics of art - read The Critic as Artist.

The first one is a bonafide play; the second is an essay in form of a play.

I dont even have a simcard in my phone. So no phonecalls or internet.

Cancelled my phone contract 2,5 years ago. Never going back again.

Feels so much better when you're out and you dont have to check your phone 24/7

Ha, I should do that for my daughter to make her see the REAL world!

Regarding books though, I've tried a few times to read them on my new tablet I got for xmas to actually read books on lol. But I don't like it.

I honestly prefer an actual book!

Yeah actual book is the way to go. You need to smell the paper and hear the voice when you turn the page.

I'm going to start an Ottoman History book. Actually it's 7 books series by Johan Wilhelm Zinkeisen, goes until 1812. The whole series should be around 4500 pages so I'll probably stop after 2-3 books and read something else or read a fictional book at the same time. I love history but not sure I could go that far without a break.

jelaous. so jelaous.
always wanted to have that collection, it is not available here in Argentina.
Ottoman empire history is really hard to obtain here, most of the time books are too westernized and you feel some sort of judgement when analizing the period.
I want to get a book about Mevlevilik history. next time i go to istambul i will ask you about good bookstores if you dont mind.

A new book looking at the history of the Mediterranean in the 15th century through the eyes of two Albanian families may be of interest. Agents of Empire by Noel Malcolm.
And here's to you Mathieu Flamini
