Emiliano Viviano

Emiliano Viviano

Bologna’s Emiliano Viviano is a possible summer transfer target for Premiership giants Arsenal. The London club are set to swoop for a new custodian and Viviano has been paired with a switch to England today. Viviano is 25 and is now a full Italian international, even if only an understudy to Juventus veteran Gigi Buffon on the Azzurri stage. Viviano’s future, however, is somewhat complicated to decipher seeing as he is currently part-owned by Bologna and Inter. Only once the two clubs have reached an agreement on his ownership will the doors for a possible move open. The two Serie A sides are set to meet before June 25 in order to sort out his contract. Bologna had previously admitted that they’d like to keep the No 1, while Viviano has stated that he would have reservationsabout joining Inter with Julio Cesar already at the club. The Stadio Dall’Ara outfit have been in talks with Bari over a swoop for goalkeeper Jean-Francois Gillet. It is also understood that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger would prefer a ‘keeper with Premiership experience.

In the Sun today
INTER MILAN keeper Emiliano Viviano is an £8million target for Arsenal.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger will make his move as soon as he finally offloads Emirates misfit Manuel Almunia.

Inter have only just paid Bologna £3.8m to acquire the full rights for Viviano, 25, who had been co-owned by the two clubs.

But the 6ft 5in Italian would welcome a move to Arsenal to battle Wojcech Szczesny for the No 1 spot rarther than be Julio Cesar's understudy at the San Siro.

Almunia lost his place at Arsenal after a series of blunders last season and fans demanded Wenger bring in an experienced stopper this summer.

But targeting Viviano suggests Wenger is not prepared to break the bank with a £20m swoop for Lyon's France No 1 Hugo Lloris

This would be a strange signing. I think Fabianski did more than prove his worth in his short time as number one, and Sceszny certainly showed his worth. I think they both have what it takes to compete with eachother, improve, and provide us with a keeper good enough to wear the number 1 jersey.

This guy is another 25 year old, is he actually any better than what we have?

don't really see a need for another keeper. We should just stick with szczesny and use Fabianski and Mannone as back ups.

Sky Sport Italia: Arsenal have late interest in Palermo/Inter goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano. Issue to sort is co-ownership. Fiorentina want.

No he's not, I remember him from Brescia while I was observing El Kaddouri - a promising Belgian CAM.
Viviano is a good back-up keeper (more consistent than Fabianski) but in my opinion [at the moment] not good enough for the number 1 spot.

I think Fabianski wants out and Mannone isn't good enough for back-up IMO.

If only...

Definitely need an experienced keeper though... Howard still my top choice. Not for back-up but for Chesney to learn from.

Fabianski wants first-team, Mannone's staying at Hull.

I'm dreaming of having Udinese's Handanovic between the sticks. :cloud9:
Can't see it happen though...
