Buy a few packs with money. Then start the offline season. You should have a decent squad after a few divisions then queue for online. You'll still run into decent sides but you'll be a bit more prepared for them.
Side note, I actually find career much more enjoyable as I can create a youth system and also sign a striker for Arsenal. Might want to give it a go, very rewarding if you play it realistically.
