I agree with the too many stoppages and commercials in the NFL. I use to get excited about the NFL season every year (and still do to a certain extent), but they have changed the rules so much, and the physicality of it (which was the best part) has been taking out and it just isn't the same. All this protection for players cause we know more about concussions now. It's ridiculous. These players know the risk, just like MMA fighters and even boxers. If they don't want to have the possibility of being brain dead later in their lives then don't play. It's that simple. Next they're going to say that boxers and MMA fighters can't punch each other in the head. The hypocrisy of it all is mind boggling.

haha I came here because of my love for Arsenal FC, who cares if I call it football or soccer.....I will make an effort to call it football if it's that important to some of y'all. I've never thought it was such a big no no.

To quickly answer your question, American football is called football because its origins are in "Rugby Football" where proper football was "Association Football". The word "association" is where the word "Soccer" derived, I believe. I'm not sure how the word "football" stuck regarding American Football though and not some other name, but it's too late to change it now.

Yep, it started with Association football, then shortened to Assoc, then eventually soccer.

Haha Sure, some Texans do! Texas is a big, diverse, state so there are different dialects in different parts of the state. I'm from the same part of the state as Matthew McConaughey so a lot of people here speak similar to him. I don't believe mine is as thick as his though.

haha It would be nice to have some Arsenal friends, but It's just one sport. Those same friends and I support the same teams in baseball, basketball, American football, etc.
