I'm not stereotyping, it's nothing against you personally, i just hate stats.

the adams apples checked out not tony adams
he barely crossed my mind.
this is the internet and whilst i don,t adopt a different persona if i can support an arsenal player i will try.
paint me as just a stats man if it makes you feel more comfortable though

Stats are interesting because they often point out or highlight things people miss - people think their own perception is more reliable than hard data but all psychologists will tell you that's simply not true, the way we compartmentalise information and store memories isn't as faultless as we all like to think. Stats don't tell the whole story and can be manipulated of course, but I think they're a valuable source of information that if used correctly tell you a lot about the game.

I watch too much football, but I know it's very hard to know the intricacies in the performances of all 22 men across a full 90 minutes. It's worth just watching one player during a game at some point, it's highly likely you'll find yourself coming to different conclusions about their performance to the other people watching with you.

The best quote I ever heard regarding stats: "Statistics are like a bikini, they show what is interesting but hide what is vital".

Its actually

"Statistics are like a bikini. What they reveal is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital"

But close enough
