Dropping TV5 because of his penalty miss would kill any confidence he has.

What about his awful performance on the pitch? A bloody kid in league 2 bossed him around.

I would still play him. After all the only alternative is Squid.

Vermaelen is a top quality defender and dropping him would send a wrong signal especially with Kos injured. If Kos was fit, i wouldn't mind resting Verms but with Kos' injury we must play him.

He really wasn't that bad... and there's no one else to put there besides Squid

13th of May 2012 Arsenal beat West Brom 3-2 to finish 3rd ahead of Newcastle. Gooney is still yet to leave the forum...

Verm has been very average all year imo. But as someone said, we really don't have any better options.

Vermaelen was much better than Mertesacker last night and IMO his bad form has been greatly overstated. He's been solid in recent weeks.

Koscielny is the defender who has been utterly atrocious this season.

Still no excuse for missing the peno though

Not sure if I've read or heard anyone criticize Verms play this season, except for my Liverpool supporting friend. Either way, many things are overstated, but I don't think saying he's been very average is.
