Santos back

Andre Santos is heading back to Arsenal after being priced out of a move to Gremio, writes Darren Witcoop.

Arsenal flop Santos was packed off on loan to the Brazilian club in January after the capture of Nacho Monreal.

Arsene Wenger wants to offload the error-prone defender as part of his summer shake-up and is prepared to take a financial hit on a player bought for £6million in August 2011.

But Gremio claim the 30-year-old will return to the Emirates as he is too costly to seal a permanent move to his homeland.

Gremio's director of football Marcos Chitolina said: "It would prove to expensive to renew Andre's contract. He is a very expensive player.

"We thank him for everything he has done."

Santos, who still has two years left on his contract, is among the list of Arsenal's unwanted players.

The left-back soured his relationship when he was ridiculed for swapping shirts with Robin van Persie DURING the Gunners' defeat at Manchester United last November.

Santos could join the likes of Marouane Chamakh, Andrey Arshavin, Sebastian Squillaci and Denilson heading through the exit door this summer.

Doubt anyone will come in for him.. I don't expect him to be playing much of a part here but if he does get the odd game it will surely be on the wing rather then in the defence...

13th of May 2012 Arsenal beat West Brom 3-2 to finish 3rd ahead of Newcastle. Gooney is still yet to leave the forum...

Is there a chance that we might have to let him go on a free (if he doesn't want to leave?)

Just loan him out to a team in the Prem, even one of the new teams coming up from promotion.

His antics alone have pissed me off, swapping shirts, eating too many burgers etc etc he didn't show the commitment to be an AFC player so he can do one.

Meh, we had too many wasters leaving, we need to keep the numbers up

If he can dramatically improve his fitness, who can tell what use he might be to us for the coming season? Still, thats a big IF..

Andre Santos sorry to return to Arsenal after Gremio loan
By Paulo Freitas. | Last Updated: June 14, 2013 9:13pm

Brazilian full-back Andre Santos has begrudgingly returned to Arsenal after the end of his loan at Gremio. The 30-year-old did not live up to expectations at Emirates Stadium after arriving from Fenerbahce in 2011 and secured a temporary return to Brazil in February. Santos enjoyed his time at Gremio but the club could not afford any permanent deal and so he has admitted his disappointment at having to go back to Arsenal. He told Radio Gre-Nal: "My loan deal is over. It was six months long and now I am returning. Gremio had an agreement with Arsenal and I have to return." Santos added: "I wanted to stay. Gremio were fair regarding everything. I felt well there and I wanted to win a title before leaving. Unfortunately there is no deal and I had to return to Arsenal."

Total waste of space. I seriously don't want him anywhere near our squad. Bloody fool! Fenerbahce take him back!

Christ, he's 30? It was bad enough that he was the 2nd Brazilian that utterly flopped at Arsenal, but the fact that he's 30 makes it even more difficult to offload him. The fact that he's a lardass won't help matters.
