We won't miss him on the pitch but do you think morale might be damaged off the pitch by losing a big personality from the squad?

I hope not. I think Santos is a popular figure among the players, but all of them know that this was a good decision, even for Santos himself.

Scoring and the attacking side was never a problem with Santos.

Andre Santos open to make loan move from Arsenal to Gremio permanent
By Paulo Freitas. Last Updated: March 27, 2013 2:53pm

Andre Santos claims he would be willing to make his loan move from Arsenal to Gremio permanent in the summer. The Brazilian full-back returned to his homeland in January after struggling to settle in England. An early-season loss of form convinced Arsene Wenger to let him head out on loan, with Nacho Monreal drafted in as cover during the winter transfer window. Santos announced on his departure from the Emirates that he intended to return and prove himself to the Gunners faithful. He has, however, relaxed that stance since returning to familiar surroundings. The 30-year-old now says that he would welcome the opportunity to remain at Gremio past the end of the season. Santos told Zero Hora: "I'll do my best to win titles. I have won titles at every club I have played for. The staff, board and the players have all made me feel very welcome. There is no doubt that I want to stay."

Er ... swapping shirts at half-time with RVP does not count as a title.

titles at every club I have played for." ........except Arsenal, and he is still an Arsenal player.

I feel bad for the guy. He, like Giroud, was in no position to be brought in to play for a top-flight team like Arsenal, let alone in a league as physical and competitive as the PL. He also doesn't fit in Wenger's formations anyway, so all his Arsenal stint got him was a fat paycheck but the complete destruction of his confidence. He knows this, which is why he's pushing for a permanent move there. Hopefully Wenger will let him go and not haggle too much on the price.
