I could knock some stats together to make Cygan look better than Adams.

I agree with Yorky. From what i've seen of Santos he is great going forward but useless in defence, he commits himself way too much and for some reason always looks like he is treading water when tracking back.

I think there is a reason why AW played him on the wing on our tour.

Go on then Yorky... :)

I know what your getting at, but I personally do believe that Santos has a uneserved reputation, as these fairly comprehensive stats suggest.
Leno
Bellerin Sokratis Holding Tierney
Ceballos - Torriera - Özil
Pépé - - Lacazette - - Auba

I can put stats together to make it seem like we've won a trophy every year for the past 7years

I think Santos defensive capabilities are overlooked due to his nature to go and help the attack, he is far more (physically) built for the battles against PL forwards than Gibbs and he's more experienced too.

I wouldn't mind giving him a starting job when the league starts and see how he fairs, I'm sure he is capable of learning from his own mistakes in his 1st season in the PL similar to how Koscielny has faired last season.

Exactly. He may have had more interceptions per min, won more headers per min... But that in no way accounts for his overall defensive positioning. How often did he allow a cross, or was caught out on a through pass or burned on the dribble? All of that is left out of those stats.
This space used to be more fun...

Defensively he is soooo rubbish. No matter what anyone says.
I want Carl Jenkinson back in a Arsenal shirt next season.

I agree. I do not take notice of stats anyway. They mis-lead bigtime anyway. IE Completed passes. A player could have 90 odd per cent. But they could have been little square passes. Whereas a player could have attempted loads of 40 and 50 yard ones and got , Say 5 0r 6 of them out of 10. They look poorer in terms of stats. I judge a player on what i have seen.

Same here, chesneys stats thread was clearly undisputed evidence that he's shite, santos high stats is undisputed evidence he's shite.

Santos looked off the pace physically don't get me wrong, but if he can sort his fitness, he may well be the real deal. Who knows what a full pre seasons training may do for his ability to get back into position sharpish?

Either way, I love his little stabby tackles at times, the way he smuggles the ball off players toes is epic. However, would defo say we haven't seen the best of him yet.

He's a Brazillian. Marcelo, Alves and even the great Roberto Carlos are not that good at defending. I doubt Wenger bought him for his defending quality.
