Interesting read comparing Santos to the league's other LBs

I think the fact he has been given the traditional left winger's number 11 shirt tells us all we need to know about what role he is designed to play in the team. In fact, judging by pre-season, I would not be at all suprised to see him playing as an out and out LW in quite a few games next season.

Olympic final full time: Brazil 1 - Mexico 2.
Brazilian defenders are just like Santos, good in attacking, but not too good in defending.

I agree. I do not take notice of stats anyway. They mis-lead bigtime anyway. IE Completed passes. A player could have 90 odd per cent. But they could have been little square passes. Whereas a player could have attempted loads of 40 and 50 yard ones and got , Say 5 0r 6 of them out of 10. They look poorer in terms of stats. I judge a player on what i have seen.

+1
Stats are like a bikini, they show what is interesting, but hide what is vital

True Massa, Gibbs likes to hug the touch-line and is more of a genuine Wing-back with pace being his main asset, whereas Santos likes to drift more centrally and use his Brazillian footwork and passing to help dictate play. It's good to have two very different LBs who gie us some options depending on the opposition.

Gibbs will improve his defensive quality. Can't say the same thing about Santos though.

even wenger knows that he's a LM/LW and not a LB.

He's more at ease in my opinion on the left of midfield, where there's a lot of competition. He will be back at the end of July, and of course he can have a future at Arsenal. That depends as well on the ins and outs during the summer.”
