Edu - Arsenal fans will grow to love Santos
By Joe Brewin
Former Arsenal midfielder Edu says he is “100 per cent sure” that Andre Santos will be a hit at Emirates Stadium.
Edu, now general manager of Corinthians in his native Brazil, is a big fan of Arsène Wenger’s summer acquisition and believes the left back will prove his value once he is given time to adapt to English football.
“He is a very good player and a very good guy,” Edu told Arsenal.com. “With the ball he is technically fantastic, a typical Brazilian player.
“But every Brazilian needs time to adapt to the league because the English league is so different. I am 100 per cent sure that the fans will love him because he is very good with the ball.”
Santos follows a long line of Brazilians to don the red and white since Wenger took charge. The Club currently boasts four on the books with Denilson, Pedro Botelho and Wellington all currently out on loan.
Edu says he tries to keep up to speed with events in north London and is one of many Brazilians who follow the team’s fortunes in his homeland.
“I know the Brazilian players at Arsenal very well, all the Brazilians follow them,” he said. “I follow Arsenal as well.
“Before he came to London, Andre spoke to me and asked me about Arsenal - and it's nice to see so many Brazilians here. If they are here maybe it is because me, Silvinho and Gilberto did something good.”
