Gunner Park gets call-up

Gunner Park gets call-up

Postby Trina » Sat Jun 30, 2012 6:39 am

Arsenal striker Park Chu-young has been named in South Korea's national squad for this summer's London Olympics despite controversy over his delayed military service.

The 26-year-old was dropped from his country's recent 2014 World Cup qualifying squad after he came under fire for delaying his military service by obtaining a ten-year residency for Monaco last year.

However, he apologised on his return to South Korea earlier this month and has been included as one of Hong Myung-bo's three over-aged players for the Games.

Park, who joined Arsenal from AS Monaco last August, has endured a lacklustre debut season in North London, scoring once in just six appearances.

However, he remains one of South Korea's most influential players, having been a prolific scorer in national colours since making his debut in 2005.
Experience

Coach Hong said: "Physically, he's much better than I'd expected him to be.

"He brings a lot of international experience and he will play a significant role on this team.

"As a head coach, I'd like for him to do a lot of things, but he's just one of 18 players we have.

"I am actually worried that he might be trying to do too much for the team. I don't want that to affect his performance."

Scored again against Senegal. THis is the team that beat Spain and another quality team (which I can't remember). On the scoring sheet for 2 consecutive games.

He'll need to have a good Olympic to leave for a good fee.

Oh if he does well there he will get me thinking= Maybe we should give him a chance. At the moment he does not have any hope of that. So really i want him to go. No point paying someone who is not part of the plans.
I want Carl Jenkinson back in a Arsenal shirt next season.

That is the ONLY reason he is with us.

Lol not sure if you're serious or not.... But Arsenal is the most hated team in Korea right now. If indeed the only reason he is with Arsenal is to sell shirts, then Wenger probably needs to rethink his business strategy.

It seems to have been a contractual problem. Monaco and Arsenal just resolved the problem about a couple months ago.... seems like Park was the victim of Monaco trying to rake in as much money as possible from this transfer and his military situation....

I really do wonder why Wenger doesn't use him. Everytime I see him play for us and for South Korea, he seems to do a hell of a lot more than Chamakh
