Was there any point in this signing other than financial?

Was there any point in this signing other than financial?

I don't believe so...I think in all honesty he was purely a commercial signing.

Why do i think this?

Well he can't get a game ahead of Francis Chamakh, in two years he will be leaving for Military service which he cannot get out of and more importantly, DOESN'T WANT to get out of.

There was a recent interview after the Poland game and he basically said that it was unlikely he would be returning to Europe after his military service.

Now i think he is a good player who could be really good for us, but i don't think he'll be much more than a fringe player, which means he was purely a money making spin in order to branch out to the East, when you think our pre-season was also in the East, i think it makes perfect sense...

We obviously identified him and bought him quickly as he was hours away from signing for Lille.

He was very cheap because of Monaco's relegation but was he so cheap that his fee will be paid back in shirt sales twice over?
Debatable.

Too early to say this as we don't know how many games he will or won't get this season. Bit knee-jerk tbh.

It isn't knee-jerk is it though, he hasn't even come off the bench in a game yet, which means AW probably doesn't see him as a 1st teamer.

He will also be leaving and not coming back in 2 seasons, so was there any point?

Stats in the '90's remember.

Give Wenger Pro Evo 6 and he'll soon realise he has the best striker in the world on his hands.

He played in the CC game and he was awful.
If you play that badly you don't get to play in the Prem, even as a sub. Believe it or not Chamakh is actually on better form.
Maybe not at international level but certainly at club level.

I thought the signing of Ryodinho was purely to increase market share in Japan but, he's got some ability.
I think it's too early to suggest Chu-Chu Train is nothing more than a commercial venture. Although i know nothing about his footballing abilities
It'll be hard for him to get to grips with the pace of this league. Look at Chamakh, he's been nothing short of a disaster after his first 6 months in England. And we got him for free...

Don't party too hard. The other side of that coin is that we lose Song, Frimpong & Gervinho.

I do think it's quite mad that he has only started 1 game against minnows and not even come off the bench before or since. He has to be a better option than Chamakh or Bendtner and both got games (in their best position or not)

Why do u want narrow it down to shirt sales only .

It could also have been to raise the profile of the club in Asia pacific region .People tend to
think you are far more serious about nurturing talent when u employ a player from the same region .

With half the squad on physio's table, if he hasn't got a sub appearance let alone a start , i am afraid
you have to think about the miscellaneous reasons , he was signed for and not to bolster the squad .

Fact he isnt being chucked in at the deep end says something about our squad depth for once.

Fair point, but I hate it when managers are afraid to throw players in when we're looking like losing the game. A little like Theo being picked by Sven then not getting a single minute on the pitch. When you're losing (especially by some of the scorelines we've had), you've got nothing to lose. Chu Young, and especially Ryo could be game changers... I was never expecting them to be starters straight away, but I was expecting more minutes than ZERO minutes!!!
