He sent it to his superior, either the foreign secretary or more likely the head of the diplomatic service. Someone with a very high security clearance, eg a Personal Assistant or similar, has taken upon themselves to leak it despite being trusted with sensitive information.

Not sure why ridiculous positions are as always being argued here? just to score silly political points ... Sure it's a forum so all views are welcome to create debate but it seems creating a fictitious version of events and then supporting that fiction is becoming the norm .... is this correct?

A UK Diplomat made offensive comments about the leader of the country he was employed to negotiate with

Said UK Diplomat put these offensive comments down in writing and circulated them to his bosses

Some c*** leaked said documents

UK diplomat recognized that his position had become untenable and resigned his post

Does anyone deny that this is what happened? ... So given those events that raises two questions

Was the diplomat right to resign? - Seems to me this was his decision to make and he's explained his reasons ....

Who the f**k leaked FO documents? - A far bigger issue and something that the government should be all over ....

Surely then charges should be being pressed on the individual, I'm not sure how people have access to each others email accounts but whatever.

Either way the whole thing is an embarrassment, and we as a country are doing this act on a regular basis.

We're embarrassing ourselves in Europe, embarrassing ourselves in America.

Its just not good enough.

The number of suspects must be small. I hope charges are brought. Its either the recipient or one of their close staff, or one of a very small number of Embassy staff, or the CIA somehow hacked it

Very much. And even if no retaliation happens, this conflict with Iran is heading in the wrong direction.This is why i thought giving Trump credit for stopping that military strike was insanely short sighted.

They are becoming more of a rogue nation every day.

We shot down one of their drones the other day too. I'm sure in response to shooting one of ours down.

I wonder if they realise that Britain is fairly experienced in Naval warfare.

Apparently the UK seized one of Iran's tankers a few days ago that was heading towards Syria and ignoring EU sanctions.
