That was UKIP's offer under Farage too.

I do love that Labour are tearing themselves apart,

Project Fear.

Brexit hasn't happened, if / when it does it'll be Britain who would be at fault if that were the case, they'll be in charge of customs.

Its these sorts of stories that makes Remain not credible.

Everyday its "Brexit will cause this, Brexit will cause that", crappy journalism.

I'm not even necessarily for Leave but even I get tired of seeing these sorts of sensationalist headlines on a daily basis.

Oh so today remain isn't credible

Nice to see what your opinion is this morning

Considering security yadayada was Leave's main thing I think this is significant. Crappy journalism has also been Leave's main thing

Without their right wing media attack dogs they'd have lost easily.

I'm saying their sensationalist reporting doesn't help them.

When people tell you everyday the worlds ending and it doesn't, the warnings then become white noise.

Also stop crying, I never said Leave weren't guilty of sensationalist BS either.

Anna Soubry is a surprise but she was one of that lot meeting with Chukka.

Well we'll see what this does but doesn't that mean this lot could all be out of a job if they don't get elected as independents by their constituency?

Nothing more than a bunch of pro EU politicians banding together for one last stand to try and defy the will of the people. Most of them are going to lose their seats at the next election unless they are good constituency MPs since most people who vote nowadays just vote for party logo rather than the person.

Well Soubry is a classic example....she only just scraped past the Labour vote in the last election. Would be an interesting by election though, lots of different conundrums.

Yes I did notice that, rather than "The Independent party" surely they should be called "The Remain party".

To be fair they've calculated this well, with 48% of the country voting Remain then they may get a swell of support and new MP's off of Labour Remain voters disillusioned with Corbyn not fighting for a new referendum.

Also Labour has become quite Far Left in philosophy if not actual practice, Labour MP's like Chukka are more of the Blair Centre Left mold.

Anyway, why not, about time something interesting happened, this stalling push pull by Labour / Cons has gotten stale.

Brexit or no brexit the two main parties are a shambles.

One under the thumb of Corbyn and his mates, the other infested with "ERG" barely concealed alt-right W****rs.

We need a new party for normal people to vote for. If they join with the Lib Dems and if they get one or two Tories or even SNP, it could get interesting

Its interesting because if they play their cards right the funding which is monopolized by the Big 2 could tip as I'm sure the EU would encourage some back channel funding through interested parties or businesses, they may end up swamped with funding enough to mount a serious attempt at becoming a solid party.

Anna Soubry and Chukka are obviously the ring leaders and both of them no matter what you think of them are shrewd operators, they're not stupid.

It's a brave development, probably hurts Labour far more than the Tories not that it matters. Any new party struggles to attract traditional voters who have voted Labour/Tory for their entire lives. Pollsters will tell you that 85% of voters never change their vote, any swing comes from the 15% undecided and from the new voters. Here's why it hurts Labour, traditionally Labour attracts the young 'radical' voter who vote against their parents as an act of rebellion. This tends to happen far more with Tory children than Labour children, don't know why but it just does.

The new 'centre' party may well attract this group and thus hurt Labour, however they will struggle to swing traditional voters. The other danger they face is becoming a one issue party, if they are the party of Remain, what happens after Brexit is finished? are they finished as well?

It's a bold move and let's hope it forces both Labour and Tory to kick out their extremists and move back to the centre ground ... if Labour slide even further left and the Tories even further right who knows Chukka Umunna might just have played a blinder

Again Soubry and Chukka are clever, by calling themselves the Independents, instead of "Remain" they won't end up like UKIP where by virtue of their name they become redundant after a particular result.

They are trying to pick up the votes from the 48% of the population that Labour haven't satisfied.

Remember its possible that 48% may actually have tipped over 50% by now, who know's but its a massive chunk of the population and their new party has no ideology baggage that a central or centre left, centre Right person would be put off by.

I think they would be stronger if they had backup from a few members with larger constituency majorities

As it stands a lot of them are in a precarious position when it comes to the next election.

They definitely need more members imo.

So far they have 11, it would serve them well to increase their members so they jump from the 4th highest with Lib Dems to the 3rd biggest in Parliament.
