Migrant crisis

Postby Trina » Sat Sep 05, 2015 7:07 pm

I've noticed on media sources the last few days how split people are on this. Some are saying help them (mainly due to the children plastered all over the papers), and others saying our NHS etc can't cope as it is.

Prime Minister David Cameron has pledged the UK will accept "thousands" more Syrian refugees.

The British government had been under increasing pressure to offer refuge to more of those arriving in Europe from countries including Syria.

Mr Cameron has said that the UK will provide resettlement for "thousands more" refugees. They will come from UN camps bordering Syria and not from those already in Europe, he said.

He stressed the importance of finding long-term solutions and said Britain would act with its "head and heart".

Mr Cameron has stressed that Britain is the second-largest bilateral donor supporting Syrian refugees in the region.

About £900m of UK money has been spent since 2012 on food, tents and other humanitarian aid.

These people are running away from their countries because of a WAR (I'll attach a pic at the end of my post). They left everything behind and are running for their lives. That is the very definition of self preservation. Turning them down because they are muslim or some similar shitty reason is not acceptable.
I do understand some points which people are raising over this issue (like accomodation - be it living or money directly - for instance, I read that taking care of an underage refugee costs somewhere around 60k € per year - which is more than some professionals work for), but the thing is that the people that are expressing genuine reasons for not taking care of the refugees are maybe the 1 or 2%, the remaining 98% are simply spouting xenophobic bullshit.

We in the UK along with the Yanks have been kicking hornets' nests for the last 15 years

There are bound to be consequences and this is one of them.

But in all seriousness, bring them home. Poor guys. War has destroyed their homes.

For anyone who is worried about bringing in the refugees because they're Muslim, I would just ask you, WWJD?

Disgraceful that it took pictures of two little kids dead on a beach to make the world really take notice of the situation. I understand that there is economic factors to account for but imagine it was you and your family that was running for their lives.

This might seem an odd thing to say but I think we should be saying that we're willing to take a significant number but it must be a roughly even number of men, women and children. Where problems can arise with employment, crime etc is where you have a disproportionate amount of young men, and this should be avoided.

While some of them certainly are refugees, the number of them that have smartphones and suspiciously large amounts of money (how else would they have been able to exchange sufficient for euros to buy train tickets to Germany) does make it a bit suspicious. One thing I think we can all agree on is that Cameron has been a coward over this. He initially said 500 only then suddenly climbs down and says thousands from migrant camps yet isn't yet on the same page.

Don't mind it if they registered them where they arrived and then divided them over the western countries.

Right now it's not just about escaping war to a safe country (there's plenty of safe countries and most come from already staying for a long time in Turkey) they simply go where they get the most money.

It shouldn't matter if they have smart phone or money, the fact is they are running for their lives and govrernments are sitting by letting people die

Have no problem with it as long as they don't try what some dude tried to do down the high street the other day.

Going round asking for money which is fine. What isn't fine is him going round asking for money with designer shoes on. I even asked him where he got them from as I wanted a pair. Not been since since around these parts.
