There is a difference though to trying to gain votes and what you do once in office.

Take UK politicians for e.g, they make all sorts of promises in campaigns but once elected they do none of it.

10x as many murders by gun in Ireland as in the UK. In fact, there's a smaller difference in gun related deaths between Ireland the US than there is between Ireland and the UK. That's a very interesting stat and tells me they should be doing a lot better over in the so-called "Emerald Isle".
