Schools advised against swimming lessons in Ramadan

What a joke this country's going down the spout. Its rubbish like this that incites racism.

Swimming lessons in some Staffordshire schools should stop during Ramadan to ensure Muslim pupils "do not swallow water", a council has suggested

Whatever next?

For crying out loud, what is Britain becoming?

Why not go the whole hog, and ban school dinners and tuck shops "just in case"

Art can be banned, pupils might accidentally swallow paint, all exercise banned, there is the risk of sweat dripping after all.

All shops on route to the schools should be shut "just in case", page 3 banned.

In fact why not shut the whole sodding Country down "just in case"

Honestly, sometimes I just can't believe what I'm seeing.

Wait...

Clearly I misunderstand something here...

They're fasting for one month, and can't swallow water? So during their one month fast they can't swallow water... wouldn't this leave them dead after about 3 days?

edit: caught it... missed the dawn till dusk part first read.

That's a bit uncalled for and I would like you to apologise for that comment.

I posted here but my comment vanished.

During Ramadan I used to have a note to skip swimming and do field activities with the other class instead.

Ramadan is during school summer holidays this year so this story is a non starter anyway.

While I agree with the bulk of your post, you can't ask somebody to apologise for stating their opinion.

Why not just excuse Muslim pupils from swimming? Problem solved.

Hows it uncalled for?. I basically outlining my shock at length people go to. It a "what's next" sort of comment like SE13's post. If they cant get water in there mouth and ban swimming, its on the same level.

IMF leave old grievances out, don't take everything offensively. I'm not racist, I have Asian and back family. I just think people should get as good as we give and we seem to jump thru hoops whilst the minority's wouldn't.

Stop being logical...

Don't you know logic doesn't apply to situations that involve minorities? Besides, you're a woman you should know you are not allowed to use logic. :hiding:

If they are stopping swimming lessons then i guess the majority of pupils in that institution must be muslim. In which case the school may take a view that the money used to pay for those swimming lessons across that month could be re-appropriated elsewhere.

But as IMF said, Ramadan's in summer so that report may have been written to incite unneccesary reaction.
