Hello fellow forum members,
I'm starting this thread because ever since the start of the conflict in Ukraine, I've felt like tensions have been rising all around the world in a somewhat unprecedented way.
To name a few, there have been several incidents in the Taiwan Strait, the American ban on the Chinese chip industry, the usual North Korean cyber-rattling, Iran supplying Russia with weapons, Israel directly bombing Iran a few days ago, with the most recent being Balloongate, aka the Chinese sending that effing balloon flying over American mainland.
While I feel that a lot of what is happening is unprecedented I'd like to be clear that I think we're still extremely far from any kind of global conflict, but we're definitely trending toward that direction, more than ever before in my lifetime. Because of that, I think it would be good to have one central thread where we discuss and keep track of all of these smaller escalations, instead of having them spread over different 3 threads like "In the news today", "European Politics," and "American Politics."
For my first post I'd like to point to this newest piece of news:
Apparently, the U.S. military has just shot down a "high-altitude object" the size of a "small car" over Alaska. There's currently no information about what the object was, who owns it or anything about it, but there will be a press conference later with more information.

With the Balloon thing from a few days ago, my guess is It's the Chinese doing something again?
