Rip Off Britain

Debate about anything going on in the world. Please remember, everyone has their own opinion.

Rip Off Britain

Postby SE13 » Thu Oct 15, 2009 5:10 pm

I've mentioned this a few time before, but I think it's time to debate this.

Firstly, we are required to pay an extra £142 every year just for the right to have a television, it's the law.

Next we are required to pay upwards of £1,000 for the right to live in a house through council tax.

Then we have to pay anything from £125 per year for the right to own a car.

Water rates added to the list otherwise you have a reduced pressure rate.

We have 10% of our wages taken away for NI, and pushing 22% of our earnings taken away for income tax.

We then pay 11% VAT on most items we buy.

Surely we can't be more ripped off than anyone else.

I'm more annoyed about it all because for the first time in my life I'm unemployed, and after 26 years on contributing to the system, I'm rewarded with £63 a week which doesn't even cover the rent. And I still have to cover the above.

Britain is a complete rip off, and I feel it's time we spoke up, anyone else agree?

I frikkin despise the Council Tax (Poll Tax in my father's time)! Can't see what it is I'm paying for?
Rubbish picked up whenever the service wishes.
Roads? Just got home from work and there's a tailback on my main road due to another burst watermain, I'm sure.
TV licence? What the feck for?!?! :Banghead:

And then there's those utility rates. I'm pretty sure they were talking of freezing one of those utilities, though I can't remember which company cos there'll all upping their rates.

I agree completely, our outgoings are just unreal....

£600 mortgage
£140 Council Tax
£45 Water
£40 Gas (until winter comes)
£40 Electric
£15 tv licence

£880 a month, before shopping and other bills. Shopping comes to £100 a week, so thats another £400 a month onto £880 = £1280 just on the basic bills a month......

It goes down to the value of your house, the more it's worth, the more you pay.

You'll see as more English/British people post, but we're utterly robbed here, and I'm sick of it.

I have a solution that has worked for years.

I never pay my BT, gas and electric bills, I run them up until they threaten to cut off the service then I get my girlfriend to call up and say she has just moved in and the last tenant has gone, then we keep swapping and use different name or move house.

I aint paid one of those bills for the last 4-5 years, lol

:dizzy: Doesn't UK has a social security number thing to track people?

We have National Insurance Numbers, but for companies like Bt, gas, electric etc they don't take it.

45 pound for water. Holy f**k!

I missed off another £100 a month on that list actually for BT, internet and tv. Which makes it a total of £1380 a month. No wonder we're in debt, lol

Not checked conversion rates lately, but I guess

£500 mortgage
£30 gas
£30 electric
£70 cable and net
£100 shopping.

Wish there was no council tax and water rates to pay here!
