so whats a VW like to drive?

im saving for a new car atm, and have swayed more towards ford, cos of the parts being cheaper should things go wrong, want to keep a low engine size to save on tax/insurance, 1.1-1.3, but have briefly thought about a VW, there some nice looking models about.

Helen.. personally for a car to build up a no claims.. id look at getting a 1.4E Golf - Mk4, think its only insurance group 4. Very realiable cars ( All vw's are ) ...

FORD - Frequently or Regularly Damaged. Generally unreliable and the parts are so cheap coz they break so often :P

p.s add a little Toyota Yaris into contention :) nice little cars + basically most things Jap or German are reliable :)

Cheers for that Tiff :P

I got an old Ford Escort 1.297 atm, parents gave it to me for my 1st year driving, which was a good job as i had a bump 6 wks into passing my test, then took the wing mirror off reversing into the drive the same day, head was in the shed , the bump really shook me up, although all that has been sorted, and im glad to say no bumps since! bit more experienced now! I think you always have an affiliation for your 1st car & this is prob the reason ive swayed more towards Ford. I learnt in a Fiat Stilo 1.8 which was a stunning car to drive though! but drove ther 2.0 version as my instructor upgraded a few weeks before my test.
How true is that saying: you only learn to drive when you pass your test, i completely understand that now!

Ive only gone 3rd party fire & theft as i thought it was a bit pointless paying more for the insurance than what the car is worth, so i get my 1st years no claims next month.

I got to admit even though she's ancient, she runs like a dream, will start no matter what the weather, its been looked after only 2 owners before me & one being my mum, serviced every year, is really good on petrol, only thing ive had to change really was the back box (which was my fault) and just tyres with general wear & tear.
Due tax & mot next month and until i save enough for a newer car she should keep me going.

Im after anything upto a 1.3 ideally with the tax being cheaper/low insurance group ect.

Ab-Fabs
Run a quote with this place:
e-groupinsurance

You can only purchase online but i have had no problems and my quote was dirt cheap for a 1st time driver, although i did get discount for being over 25, my policy for the year was just £307, 3rd part fire, theft, commuting.

I tried confused.com & the cheapest they came up with was over £100 more expensive than e-group.

Worth running a quote. ;)

So what does everyone think of the Toyota Celica?
Because I believe that it is beautiful, I don't know about performance wise, but Image wise I think its beautiful and has alot of potential to become even more better. Toyota Celica is going to be my first car and when i get it i'm going to kit it up to the max(Maybe not over the top) and tune it to the max as well.

It looks great yeah. More of a image car than a real thoroughbred I guess, but great first car for those who can afford it.

One of my friends has the 1.8 VVTi and they aint slow cars.. certain ones push out 190bhp if i remember right (around 135 for standard) , plus for a wee bit extra you could splash out a bit and get a Celica GT still 190bhp but looks so much better :D below:

I know loads but id only recommend 1 place :) place called 'The Garage' in glasgow. Fantastic work and a great knowledge of all things tuning. I took my civic type r there to get supercharged and they were relatively cheap to for the work they done :)

for the supercharger + all the uprated internals they took 3200.. which actually when i think on it is really really good, considering it costs around 2500 to supercharge a small car like a saxo vts
