Cheers for that Tiff
I got an old Ford Escort 1.297 atm, parents gave it to me for my 1st year driving, which was a good job as i had a bump 6 wks into passing my test, then took the wing mirror off reversing into the drive the same day, head was in the shed , the bump really shook me up, although all that has been sorted, and im glad to say no bumps since! bit more experienced now! I think you always have an affiliation for your 1st car & this is prob the reason ive swayed more towards Ford. I learnt in a Fiat Stilo 1.8 which was a stunning car to drive though! but drove ther 2.0 version as my instructor upgraded a few weeks before my test.
How true is that saying: you only learn to drive when you pass your test, i completely understand that now!
Ive only gone 3rd party fire & theft as i thought it was a bit pointless paying more for the insurance than what the car is worth, so i get my 1st years no claims next month.
I got to admit even though she's ancient, she runs like a dream, will start no matter what the weather, its been looked after only 2 owners before me & one being my mum, serviced every year, is really good on petrol, only thing ive had to change really was the back box (which was my fault)
and just tyres with general wear & tear.
Due tax & mot next month and until i save enough for a newer car she should keep me going.
Im after anything upto a 1.3 ideally with the tax being cheaper/low insurance group ect.

You can only purchase online but i have had no problems and my quote was dirt cheap for a 1st time driver, although i did get discount for being over 25, my policy for the year was just £307, 3rd part fire, theft, commuting.
I tried confused.com & the cheapest they came up with was over £100 more expensive than e-group.
Worth running a quote.
