They have always been held in check by a centre left opposition because they would lose power if they went too far.

The very real problem we now have is the that the centre left opposition has become a far left opposition. Ultimately I don’t think that is going to hold the right wing in check - certainly not in most countries. MAYBE the USA will cozy up to that far left agenda because there are enough crazy people over there, but not the rest of the world.

So we are heading towards 2 extreme choices. Crazy left wing or crazy right wing…. That’s playing out in the huge divide we are seeing between people, one that is getting wider.
Not very encouraging.

Keir Starmer, a wealthy lawyer of course, is not far left by any stretch. He's from a traditional labour family and he's about as straight down the centre of left wing politics as you'll get. There are no nutters on his front bench. Left wing, yes. Centre left yes.

People forget that under Blair, whoes government was decried as not left wing enough by many labour voters, and whoes government was undoubtedly centre left, you had characters like John Prescott and Jack Straw. Pretty hard-line in their thinking

I've said it before, I'll say it again. How. HOW can anyone accuse that Labour front bench of being too extreme to govern.......when you have Boris "Bullingdon Club" Johnson, Jacob Rees f***ing Mogg and Pritti "Hang'em high" Patel in government alongside Rishi Sunek, a de facto billionaire? And they're not too extreme?

The politicians are just stuffed suits , though.
Johnson, Starmer Blair - none of them - could care less about principal or ideals. They will play to whoever they need to in order to get votes.
I don't even know if it's even a left/right paradigm in our society any more TBH, it's just some weird extreme shit being foisted on our culture - some of the shit shovelled by 'the left' and some of the shit shovelled by 'the right'. Regardless all the shit shovelling seems to be in the direction of restricting peoples freedom and making it harder for people to succeed.

I don't agree that extreme politics is dominant. It's just the same noisy minority there have always been except now they have the internet. People can see their bs first hand...... and then heres the problem, far too many people are talking about those idiots' antics rather than things that concern them directly. Job losses, prices, homelessness, crime.

This noise that people are busying themselves with directly benefits shit governments like the one we have in the UK. They aren't being asked difficult questions about policy because of it.

Imagine being so wound up about some stupid hippie agenda or anti hippy agenda that you don't have any opinions on real issues. Ridiculous

President Joe Biden’s ethics disclosure with the Office of Government Ethics (OGE) omits over $5.1 million reported to the IRS.

The OGE filing from 2017 to 2020 indicates Biden’s CelticCapri Corporation collected $8,065,464. But his tax returns filed to the IRS from 2017 to 2019 reveals he reported $13,245,535. It is unknown why Biden reported a difference of $5,180,071 to the IRS and not the OGE.

The discrepancy raises questions about where the nearly $5.2 million might have originated.

In April, Joe Biden claimed he doesn’t “think you should make money while you’re in office.”

However, emails from Hunter’s laptop appeared to show great sums of money were transferred to the Biden family via the scion’s shady overseas business.

The average American wage in 2019 was $51,916.27.

In 2013, the family secured over $1 billion in financing from the state-run Bank of China for private equity firm Hunter co-founded. The family also received millions of dollars in taxpayer loans for real estate development in the Caribbean, and benefitted from $1.5 billion in government contracts while Joe Biden was vice president.

After Biden left office, members of the family profited $4.8 million through 2017 and 2018 from its deal with a Chinese energy company, according to the Washington Post.

Polling shows 60 percent of voters believe Hunter sold “influence and access” to Joe Biden. The poll also found 67 percent believe Joe Biden should be impeached if he “secretly participated and facilitated” in the family’s business.

Can you imagine the uproar if this was Trump.
He was declared guilty in the media purely based on hearsay, never mind actual financial data.

Biden is establishing a "ministry of disinformation" run by the same clowns at DHS who have opened the border up to one and all. They can't say who decides what is disinformation but the gal in charge has a history of pushing the Russia BS...so she knows her disinformation.

So Biden is cracking down on decent, Trudeau has implemented a system by which his government vets and allows only state run media to function. Who needs to worry about China and Russia given our own authoritarian left is sinking their nasty little septic clawed mits into free speech.

THEY mean dissent. (thanks for the correction) But call it "misinformation". Yes, Covid was the excuse to prep us phlebs to be compliant.

I have for years been watching the frogs starting to boil in the UK based on the PC culture that suppresses speech deemed "offensive' but in truth is simply not as Trudeau says " are not the right thoughts". Now the US and Australia are just ignoring the erosion of freedoms too. Interesting to re read Orwell and match his warnings up to what we see happening all over the globe. I find the Biden crowd calling Putin a dictator (as he is) while aspiring to the same level of control.

Covid was a leftys dream. They had all the power to demand the people change their behaviour and threaten them with arrest if they dared to go out for a second run in a day. Fortunately the people at large woke up to how cruel and unnecessary the rules were and rightfully just ignored them towards the end (I ignored them from the very beginning)

Second amendment rights more important than kids lives or common sense

Al Queda commit a terror outrage? Start a perpetual war with, everyone basically

Y'all Queda shooting dozens of kids each year? Shrug, sigh and renew that NRA membership

The double standards and denial are disgusting. They'll never change

Ted Cruz is such an odious c***.

His solution: Have armed security and bulletproof windows at elementary schools...... but don't "politicise" the children's deaths by calling for gun control

One thing this 2nd amendment argument doesn't hold up to is this ..............

When the 2nd amendment was created it was describing being armed with the firearms of the day, i.e a musket.

Musket's even in an experts hands take around 30secs a pop, to fire, reload, aim and discharge, so you get 2 shots a minute, 3 shots in the hands of a top level expert if your stationary maximum.

The 2nd amendment was not written for a time when firearms can kill 20 people in under a minute if its fully auto.

Its ridiculous.

Even the argument of over turning a rogue gov't is ridiculous, the military has Jet planes, tanks, Nukes, bombs, rockets .......... your AR-15 isn't going to do sht against that.

So the Georgia "jim Crow 2.0" voter ID law was supposed to keep minority voters down...except last week the turnout was twice the last cycle. So another Dem lie debunked by reality.

The interesting bit was that 7% of Dem voters from 2020 switched to the GOP, and minority voters made up most of that. When Reagan did the same to Carter and thus the Reagan democrats were born the switch was only about 5%. The red wave will be a surfers dream in November.

Texas which was to be Dem controlled we were told is reversing back to GOP dominance as Hispanic Americans are furious about the open borders....as well a inflation, fuel/food shortages, extreme LBGQTDGHJDDHGJGBKJJLKUGTKLKL/puppy gender nonsense, faux race baiting/BLM riots and corruption, the coming deep recession that will make 2008 look like a blip given the inflated housing markets where the sole cause and now we have that on top of all the other self induced wounds the Dems have caused.

People here in the US are pissed as hell, and they know who to take it out on and will do so.
