Frimpong - It feels so good to be back

by Rob Kelly

Emmanuel Frimpong has spoken of his relief to finally be playing again after seven months on the sidelines with a knee injury.

The combative midfielder ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while on loan at Wolves in February, having already experienced a similar problem in his left knee in 2010.

But the 20-year-old returned to action with a 20-minute cameo in the Capital One Cup third-round victory over Coventry on Wednesday, and he was delighted to feature once again.

"It feels good to be back after so much hard work in the gym, and I'm just pleased to be playing football again," he told Arsenal Player.

"I'm a footballer, all I want to do is get out there and help my team, whether I am fit enough to play or fit enough to be in the squad. I just want to be out there with the lads and helping Arsenal progress.

"[The crowd's reaction] makes me feel good obviously and shows that the fans appreciate me here. That is always a nice gesture and I am just happy that I went on to help the team win the game."

After so long on the sidelines, Frimpong said he was keen to prove his fitness to Arsène Wenger by making - and receiving - some robust challenges.

"I think it is quite important when you come back from a big injury. You want people to knock you about a bit. I got one, but I wanted more!" he said.

LOL I don't think many players who come back from injury feel that way. I love this guy.

Song's gone and Arteta's one of our oldest players, only Coquelin is ahead of him in his position... no reason why he can't make it.

He's not to everyone's taste Est, c'mon you should know that.
As long as he keeps his head down and works hard the opportunities will come.

BAWSE.

Yeah 3 DMs is the right amount imo.
Such an important position that we need good back-up. Diaby will obviously be out for the season soon and even though he's not a DM it'll reduce our depth in midfield slightly.
With him out and Arteta taking a breather we could play Frimps and Coq next to each other in midfield.
I reckon he'll come in very handy at some point.

I like him too, and hope he does make it, but so far I don't see the talent that I believe is needed to make it at Arsenal, but he's still young and has time on his side still.

I think in Frimmy's case it's the love and commitment he seems to have for the club which could make him a very decent player, rather than an overload talent and potential, same goes for Jenkinson.

It's beautiful to have a few players who (if it depends on them) will stay at the club untill the end of their career despite being down the pecking order or being a squad player. -It's wishful thinking and daydreaming but as rare as commitment and loyalty have become, it certainly hasn't died yet.

+1

Arteta is the backbone of our midfield and we need to not just keep him fit but also fresh. Diaby is more of a CM and there is real chance for Frimps to get some handy game time. There are four competitions and plenty of games to keep the likes of Coquelin and Frimps busy.

We have so many players that i love at the moment. I don't think i've loved an arsenal squad this much since wenger's first title.

Success/winning breeds camaraderie and team spirit. It seems the players are playing for each other. They look such a happy bunch.

I have no problem with being confident either, but there's a difference between confidence and arrogance...
