Frimpong sidelined for three months

Emmanuel Frimpong has been diagnosed with a fractured cheekbone and will be out of action for three months.

The midfielder, who is currently on loan at Wolverhampton Wanderers from Arsenal, suffered the injury in the 3-2 loss to Aston Villa this afternoon.

Villa midfielder Stiliyan Petrov caught the Englishman high on the face and Frimpong stayed down for several minutes before being escorted off.

BBC West Midlands reported this evening that he would miss three months, all but ruling him out for the rest of the campaign.

Sports Mole recently announced the sponsorship of Frimpong's Wolves kit until the end of the season.

Don't think that article is right, just speculation.

From Wolves website: http://www.wolves.co.uk/page/News/0,,10 ... 42,00.html

Emmanuel Frimpong will undergo further assessment on the eye injury which saw him stretchered off against Aston Villa this afternoon.

The on-loan midfielder went straight to hospital for initial assessment on the injury where an initial examination revealed no head or spinal problems.

However, the 20-year-old has a severe swelling around his eye and will need further examination to discover the extent of the problem.

"I can't remember too much about it to be honest," said Frimpong.

"I remember heading the ball and from what I heard I then got a kick in the face.

"We'll just have to give it a couple of days and wait for it to settle down."

Frimpong was able to return to Molineux after the game following the trip to hospital.

From bbc: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/9683043.stm

1907: Here's another, rather brighter, update on Emmanuel Frimpong, this time from the Wolves website: The midfielder went straight to hospital for initial assessment on the injury where an initial examination revealed no head or spinal problems." Good news, I'm sure you will agree.

First the long injury he had last season, now he finally gets the playing time he needs and gets injured immediately. How unlucky can you be. :confused2:

Frimpong sidelined for three months

Postby Arsenal Tone » Sat Jan 21, 2012 7:54 pm

He wasn't going to play for us again this season anyway, but this will set him back as he will miss out on the experience he was meant to be getting whilst out on loan!

At least he should be able to keep his general fitness level up unlike with a broken leg etc.

Very disappointing as he was looking excellent and like his ligament injury it just stunts his development

Just thought I'd get an angle on what the Wolves fans think of him.

Read for yourselves...

http://www.wolvesforum.co.uk/showthread ... 6-Frimpong

They even posted his tweet: "You lot should stop caring about me I hope petrov foot is on after hitting A metal face"

Nice read there Gza, looks like they've really taken to him... in one of the comments he's actually referred to as their "lifeline".

He looked very good before the injury today, he's become a pivotol player for them. I'm sure the injuries not as bad as first thought too, a coupld of weeks rest maybe.

There's no mention of a broken cheekbone, so i hope it is just a severe swelling.

Hopefully, he won't miss any games because we really need him to get as many games under his belt as possible whilst on loan. He has already become an important player for Wolves and if he gains the experience he needs at this level, he could be a very important player for us next season.
