Frimpong - I’m loving Wolves loan spell
Emmanuel Frimpong says he is thoroughly enjoying his loan spell at Wolves and is happy to bide his time before making his breakthrough at Arsenal.
The 20-year-old signed for Mick McCarthy’s side until the end of the season earlier this month, and has since faced both Chelsea and Tottenham.
Frimpong is pleased with his progress at Molineux and wants to push on in the coming months.
“I think it’s going quite well,” he told the official Wolves website. “When you come to a new club it can take time to settle in but I’m adjusting to life here.
“There are a lot of young lads in the dressing room, which makes it easier for me as they are on my wavelength.
“The first game [against Chelsea] was difficult because before that I hadn’t played for two weeks. It was a tough game. And I thought we did really well at Tottenham and stopped them from playing. They had a couple of good chances but nothing too major and I thought our team coped really well.”
While Frimpong hopes his performances for Wolves will establish his Premier League credentials, he is willing to wait to seal a first-team place at the Emirates.
“There are some great players at Arsenal for me to get past to get into the team,” he said. “I’m still young - I only turned 20 last week - so there doesn’t need to be any massive rush for me to try to get in the Arsenal team.
“It’s always going to be hard for me to play week in week out for a club like Arsenal at my age and I’m happy to still be learning the game. Hopefully there will be an opportunity to play for Arsenal in the future but at the moment I’m enjoying the loan spell here.”
Frimpong has quickly acquired cult status at Molineux, as witnessed by the “You’ve been Frimponged” banner on show during Wednesday’s FA Cup replay with Birmingham.
“I saw the banner in the crowd,” he said. “I was joking with Roger Johnson and Jamie O’Hara and asking them where their banners are because I’ve only been here two weeks!
“But seriously it was nice to see and is appreciated. I’m only here on loan but it’s great the way the fans have welcomed me here. Hopefully I can repay them by helping Wolves to stay in the Premier League.
Very nice of the Wolves fans to do that. Great welcome for him.
