Ipswich 1 - 0 Arsenal

Against a team which has just been hammered 7 - 0 by Chelski, many expect a good result.
As an indication of how he viewed the competition, Wenger sent out a very strong lineup.
Starting lineup read Szczesny, Eboue, Djourou, Koscielny, Gibbs, Walcott, Fabregas, Denilson, Arshavin, Wilshere, Bendtner.
The Arsenal started the game in determined mood, dominating possession but making little headway.
The home side defended stoutly restricting the visitors to largely long ranged effort from outside the box.
As the half grew on, the visitors started to run out of ideas to breakdown a resolute defence.
The home side had proved that other than being a hard side to breakdown, they were also capable of the odd chance.
Wickham flashed a dangerous cross into the box but was just too high for Norris, else the home side might have taken the lead against their illustrious opponents.
The half ended square and obviously an improvement was expected of the visitors.
Fabregas tried to drive the team forward and dictate play with a particular lob over defence setting up Arshavin. However his effort flew wide.
Ipswich turned up the pressure and started to probe the defence marshalled by Djourou and Koscielny.
Chances came for Priskins who had been a constant pain in the a** of the visitors.
And to Wenger's credit, he tried to improve the performance of the team by bringing on Chamakh and Song for Bendtner and Wilshere.
The team improved and chances came for Walcott and Fabregas, yet the opening goal eluded the Arsenal.
And to the shock of the away fans and delight of the home fans, Ipswich took the lead.
Priskins held off Djourou after collecting a pass and slid a shot towards the corner of the goal.
To the horror of many away fans, the ball nestled into the corner of the net.
The home side had taken the lead against an opponent they had not beaten for ages.
The Arsenal tried to rescue the game as they had done similarly against Leeds, but sadly the last minute heroics is not to be today.
The silver lining in the cloud was that the 2nd leg was to be played at the Emirates and many will be expecting the tie to be turned around at home. Hopefully that is to be the case.
