Arsenal 6 - 0 Blackpool

It was the first home game of the season and there was much fan fare prior to the kickoff.
The old Clock End and North Bank were officially unveiled, in a very obvious attempt to bring over some of the history from Highbury.

But those were just the appetizers to get everyone into the mood in an afternoon of high scoring drama. At least Theo did.

The Gunners were starting with a pretty similar lineup from the Liverpool game, except Koscielny's missing due to his suspension. Song deputised as a make shift centre back. Nasri was out and Eboue started from the bench.
The line up read : Almunia, Sagna, Clichy, Vermaelen, Song, Diaby, Rosicky, Wlishere, Arshavin, Walcott and Chamakh.
Fabregas and Van Persie took their place on the bench as they work their way to full match fitness.

Kickoff and very quickly Blackpool settled into their play, with Vaughn testing Almunia with a shot. Well saved, though i suspect many fans expected the worse.

The Arsenal was quickly settling into the usual slick passing game and it paid dividends very soon.
On the 12th minute, Chamakh played the ball short to Arshavin, who played a simple one-two with Rosicky. With most of the defenders pulled out of position, Arshavin slipped a simple ball into the path of Walcott who had arrived in the box undetected. He didn't need a second invitation. A right-footed shot and the ball rested in the back of the net.
1 nil to the Arsenal.

The floodgates had opened and more was to come.

Blackpool certainly wasn't ready to roll over and let us trample over them. They mustered an effort with a Taylor-Fletcher header going just wide from a Crainey cross. Old habits die hard and Arsenal got to learn how to consolidate their lead when they get it.

The second goal came with a touch of controversy. Rosicky slid a through-ball down the middle and Chamakh started a foot race with Evatt. Out came Evatt's foot and down went Chamakh, tumbling under his challenge. While it was debatable where the offence took place, a red card was justified and the ref duly sent off Evatt. The resulting penalty was struck home by Arshavin, who opened his accounts for the new campaign.
2 nil to the Arsenal.

With the one-man advantage, Arsenal was pushing forward relentlessly, and soon, Blackpool was breached once again.

A low cross from Wilshere found Walcott in the box with his back towards goal. Showing sufficient physical presence and composure, he controlled the ball, swiveled and fired a low shot pass the keeper, all in one fluid motion.

3 nil to the Arsenal. It was turning into the Walcott show as a hat-trick beckons.

Half time came and normal service resumed.

Four minutes after the restarted, Sagna rampaged down the flank and swept in a cross, which was converted by a on-rushing Diaby.

4 nil to the Arsenal.

Shortly, Diaby turned provider this time and fed a ball through to Walcott, who cut in from the right and controlled the ball at high speed. Took one look and fired away with his left foot.

5 nil to the Arsenal, and the hat-trick is complete.

Shortly after, Wenger withdrew Diaby and Arshavin, to be replaced by Fabregas and Van Persie.
Cue the loud cheers (and some boos) for our captain.
Walcott was also withdrawn shortly and received a raptourous rapturous applause. Job well-done and deserved. Vela came on in his place.

There was still time for some tricks and skills by Vela, who flicked the ball over a defender on the left and over another again to advance on goal. At the crucial moment, he fluffed his shot and was easily saved by the keeper. Talent and skill was in abundance, he'll need to convert those chances soon.

There was still time enough to score 1 more goal, this time by Chamakh.
A corner was swung in by Van Persie from the right and Chamkh leapt highest to nod the ball home.

6 nil to the Arsenal.

It was an afternoon of attacking football and we were clearly the better side with a rampaging Walcott plundering his hat-trick.

Now to maintain the consistency and target the silverware.

Next up, Blackburn.
