Could be, he just looked so comfortable on the ball that I assumed he was another 'technical' type CB.

He is but he is also a fighter, Vermaelen is the same, they both aren't solely technical which is good because they can mix it up.

Squillaci is "Comfortable" but will always be one to hang back.

My thoughts exactly.
The number of times we've been caught out in the past because Gallas AND Vermaelen both ran up the pitch to join the attack.

Also looking at his CV he's got bags of experience and plenty of it is at CL level. Loads of trophies under his belt as well.
Overall a real bargain.

Lol I am sure when Rooney scored against us last season, Gallas was standing next to VDS

Kolo Toure was the worst for that. He used to be a midfielder and never got it out of his system. He'd bomb forward in attack and we'd be left woefully short at the back if there was a counter.

Wenger isnt dumb, he said our main problems were defensive

Releasing Gallas, Silvestre and Senderos and bringing in a physical no nonsense defender and an interceptor who wins headers is hopefully a move in the right direction to rectifying our defensive issues.

All true until our new defenders get introduced to a certain Didier Drogba and he arse rapes them.

And yet he neglects the main defensive area...

Drogba is like a cheat mode, I cant wait till he retires

I still think Schwarzer is coming, if the deal was dead Hughes would be telling the world

Drogba never used to be though, his first few seasons at Chelsea were shit.

And i don't mate, Schwarzer is unsettled so its not really in Hughes best interest to say "Ha, i got one over AW" while he is.

I don't believe we are seriously negotiating, i reckon AW is going to wait till the last day and give them an ultimatum, if it doesn't work out then he probably thinks we have "Ze quality".

That doesn't really mean anything though GG. Henry was a flop in Italy then came to Arsenal and set the world on fire.

Drogba is the BEST CF in the world today. He may not have the skills of Torres or the knack of being in the right place of Villa, but even at 33 I would take him over both of them.

Could see this guy starting for us. Don't really care who goes in that slot by Vermaelen though, just that he is the better.

He's got years left in him. Age seems to mean nothing in his case, he's a robot. Broke his arm and played a couple days later. Had a stomach operation after the WC and still played pre-season!
