But he reckons it's def gonna happen still.

I thought that rule did't apply to new signings?

I'm sure we signed Silvestre on a 2 year deal when he first came.

I don't know much about this guy. But he seems fairly experienced, and is a centre back, so I'd be happy enough with it.

Yeah I thought that too, either that or I read somewhere AW said he would 'relax' the rule... But according to Sevilla's CEO or whoever it was (Director?) He said they're only offering a 1yr contract.

That is pure bullshit.

AW offered an equally injury prone Silvestre 2 years and signed a 35 year old Campbell as well.

He turned 30 a few days ago, there is no way in hell that AW would fork out £7m on a player for one season, for that kind of money it will be 3-4 years at least.

AW's rule is only for existing players at the club and to AW's own admission, he relaxes the rule for GK's and defenders.

Go ask the Director then, these aren't my words dude.

They're wanting £6.5m - We're not matching it and only offering a 1yr contract... so far

He will be ours if we offer at least 2yrs and match their valuation. Again not my words.

Source? If so, we are seriously the tightest bunch of transfer negotiators I have ever seen.

Was a direct quote on SSN. Trying to see if there's anything on it [contract length] on SS.com or some other site.

That is pretty much what I read in Evening Standard. I thought that was odd, to say the least. Why offer in excess of £5m for one year deal? Not to mention paying for his wages. Don't sound right to me.

This is from Sky sports although it doesn't seem to reveal the length of contract

Thought this was a dead cert to be done today, obviously not.

Nothing on Sevilla's website about a bid either.

Are you saying it was made up then? Cos your comment confuses me.

The Sporting Director of Sevilla came out himself and confirmed Arsenal had made the bid.

The one year contract is baffling me. Even existing defenders are put on contracts that take them up to 32/33, and then it's only the extensions that are single years. Considering he's only just turned 30 as well, I don't see why he shouldn't be offered a two year contract.

very strange to pay 8m for a bloke and give him one year. i'm a little uneasy about this deal don't know any thing about the bloke but it kinda looks like AW couldn't get who he wanted sat at home and thought 'who else has played for france'
