Cahill out, Kelly in..

Postby Trina » Sun Jun 03, 2012 2:16 pm

England defender Gary Cahill has been ruled out of Euro 2012 with a double fracture of his jaw.

The Chelsea centre-half suffered the injury when he collided with goalkeeper Joe Hart during the friendly win over Belgium on Saturday.

Liverpool's Martin Kelly has been called up as his replacement, subject to Uefa's approval.

Fellow defender John Terry's hamstring injury has been scanned and he will be re-assessed on Tuesday.

More to follow.

It's no loss unless we need to use a third CB. There is enough days between for it to not effect us. If Lescott or Terry end up with a problem then we're in a bit of trouble.

Any bets that Terry's scan results on Tuesday rule him out as well

On another note, if Ferdinand was dropped for footballing reasons then how the hell has Kelly got in ahead of him?

I think that was the 23. The stand by squad isn't always the best as they can't expect players to sit at home when on holiday just in case, as usually you don't get things like this happening.

That's how I see it anyway.

In fact, how I see it. We don't need a player who thinks it's a good idea to push everyone up field for goals in injury time when losing 4-1 with 10 men.

The BBC article is very easy on Mertens IMO, what the hell was he thinking?
Little midget should be emberassed of himself tbfh, Belgian press is giving him loads of stick and he deserves it aswell.
Don't know what happened to him, at Utrecht he was a honest and reasonable guy, but since he joined PSV he became a nasty player just like Ola Toivonen.

My expectations for this tournament are at rock bottom now which is quite liberating in a way but I'm still not going to enjoy watching England struggle away with a scratch squad plaing antiquated 'tactics' from the 1980s.

Mertens is a w***er, seriously a proper t**t.
Just cost Cahill the chance of playing in a major tournament.

Hope the w***er gets a serious injury.

Any news if he will get suspended?

I was on my way home from work when it happened so I didn't see it. I've heard it was really bad though and you could see in his face that he was going way over the top.

Lescott has tweeted that he should have got a red.

He knew he wasn't getting the ball (Cahill was shielding it for Hart to collect) so he just pushed him with two hands and Cahill connected with Harts shoulder - which i imagine is quick built.

And the challenge was completely unnecessary. It was only a friendly. Dunno what was going on in his mind. Maybe he wanted to let Cahill know "he was there"? In any case it was stupid.
