Yes the World Cup showed that. I am amazed we are so high as well.

That sounds naughty from Fabregas, do Portugal and Spain share a tempered Iberian rivalry? That is one fixture I don't know anything about.

Thing is mate, I wouldn't of played 8 of our starting players. It was a very thrown together side. I know we haven't exactly been on form but you can't judge this game as being as good as England are.

What game should we judge it on then?

Take your pick from the World Cup where we came up against real opposition and fell flat on our faces with nigh on full strength teams...

6th is ludicrous.

We are the Audley Harrison of the Football World, really should be better given our attributes but a continual source of disappointment.

Gerrard came off with a hamstring injury, I hear Torres has torn his ankle ligaments, so its back down to the relegation zone for Liverpool within 3-4 weeks

Rev, is your avatar the dude from Superman?

I was never one to read comics as a kid, but I probably watched the moves about 50 times.

It was embarassing to watch england. Honestly while france were passing it around all england could do was to hoof it up to carroll. We are technically not even the standard of belarus.

They're officially f**ked!

No doubt the Anfield(Rafa) faithful will blame Hodgson for this and and not the shoddy, average team (bar two players) that he inherited from r***rd Rafa!

The midfield really were dreadful last night. Barry was terrible as usual, Gerrard can't keep possession, plays too many failed hollywood passes and Henderson was (understandably) out of his depth. Once again Capello got his tactics all wrong. The CB's were just as bad, all they did was hoof it up the field, was embarrassing. I thought Carrol did well with what little service he got. Walcott was completely isolated and no one passes to him, Milner was shit, Gibbs (again understandably) looked nervous and he got overrun a few times.

Perfect summary. And to think, sports writers are getting paid thousands to express this in a more verbose boring way. Sharp and to the point, it hurts a lot less than reading a whole back page!

Unbelievabley, we went UP in the first set of FIFA rankings after the World Cup debacle.
Just shows what a load of nonsense the FIFA rankings are.

I agree.
Isn't the whole point of these friendlies to give the manager an opportunity to experiment with new faces and see if they're up to the international game?

What the game did show (in my opinion) was that:
Carroll is ready for regular inclusion in future England squads, Henderson isn't and Barry is now finished at international level.

Headlines? :dontknow: How many headlines your players make, football or otherwise.

The handful of teams above us get headlines for all the right (footballing) reasons, and then there's Gerrard beating up DJ's, Rooney granny bashing, and Terry sleeping with another players missus, all for England and it's place in the world rankings... makes you damn proud doesn't it? God I love a patriot!

In all seriousness, I don't know too much about the rankings, but I know friendlies are taken into account... for some bizarre reason! Kinda makes you wonder how we were so high up when Sven was in charge handing out international caps to ball boys and tea ladies!
