Chamakh staying with Arsenal

Chamakh staying with Arsenal

Postby Trina » Thu Oct 20, 2011 12:34 pm

Arsene Wenger has declared that Marouane Chamakh will not be leaving Arsenal in January, despite the striker's lack of match action.

Chamakh has only been involved as a substitute in Premier League matches this season, with his 14-minute cameo at Blackburn his longest spell on the pitch.

He scored his only goal of the season in the defeat at Ewood Park but has started in several Carling Cup and UEFA Champions League games this term.

The Moroccan international signed for the Gunners from Bordeaux in the summer of 2010 and notched 10 goals in his first 21 appearances for the club.

But he has since failed to make an impact and the striker has been linked to Marseille, Juventus and Rennes.

Theo Walcott, Robin van Persie and Gervinho have all been selected ahead of the 27-year-old in recent outings.

Arsenal beat Marseille on Wednesday to move to the top of Group F in the Champions League but Wenger was keen to dismiss the speculation over Chamakh's future.
Not going anywhere

He said: "Marouane is not going anywhere; there is not a problem with Chamakh.

"He is fighting for the position with Robin van Persie who is in great form at the moment. He will get his chance, we have so many games."

Chamakh said: "I love this club and I will do all I can to be a success here with Arsenal, I am working hard to reach my level."

:tumbleweed:

I guess Park was bought purely as a benchwarmer to play second fiddle to RvP and Chamakh then...

The whole team could leave and there would be the same chance of those coming to AFC.

Looks like Wenger's decison to buy Park was nothing to do with football .The reasons i can think of

-A token signing to appease disgruntled fans

-To sell shirts

-To give an impression that we are serious about signing Asian talent .

I can only speculate . It looks very clear , Park is not in the scheme of things for Wenger .

Still faaaar too early into the season to say that for sure.
As I already said in the thread about Park, he has to impress in training before he can get on to the pitch and based on his recent CC performance I seriously doubt if he is.

Very true then again Arshavin impresses in training just not on the pitch.
Worrying abit about rotation, some players are playing every game like RVP, we have enough depth now as players arnt geting minutes but the games are too higher stakes to risk them or rotation is injury forced.

Exactly, would you have played Park on his current form in such a crucial CL game? Neither would I.

At least Arshavin was impressive against Sunderland so had he one good game under his belt before his selection.

Wenger says Chamakh is competing for a place in the team with RVP :rofll: :rofll:

I thought to compete with somebody you should be at-least half as good as him .
Even on RVP's worst day ,Chamakh would be no way near RVP . I mean Chamkh is simply
there in the squad to allow RVP to be rested against relatively easier oppositions and in cup games.

As i said in another thread; in order for us to grab a larger share of the Asian market on the back of signing park, he must first play games.
All this talk of him being bought purely to increase our standing in the Asian sector is hyperbole. He's not a lege, or royalty, nor an uber star.
As far as i can tell there's no stipulation he must play every 2nd game (he's only featured in one so far) so I doubt we're 'pulling them in' in Korea....
