Pretty shit game, even before we went down to 10 men.
The 2 times we worked Green he was picking the ball out of his net, and apart from Cole hitting the post I don't think Almunia had to do an awful lot.
Scoring early seemed to put us in a mood that we would just cruise to 3 points, and it very well could have cost us against a different team. As shocking as it may sound I think Eboue might have been motm, and even more shocking , I think Diaby gave us a different dimension when he came on. Don't get me wrong I still dislike some of the things he does (great skill then final pass is muck), but I no longer want to set him on fire and throw him off a cliff.
All in all it was a game we HAD to win, and we won not playing our best. We beat Hull last week while very ordinary, and we did the same today. Whether we win the league or not, I am happy to see and Arsenal side win games even when they aren't playing great.

A DM needs to be a clean tackler like Song, DJ isnt and yes we don't need Melo with 19 yellows and his 3 red cards already
A DM needs to be confident on the ball like Song, DJ isnt.
A DM needs to make those through passes like Song, DJ can't.
A DM needs some dribbling to move forward like Song, DJ can't.

They aren't the assets for a DM, these are:

(1) Guarding the back four - Johan can do this FANTASTICALLY - 9/10
(2) Good Positioning or high work-rate - Djourou has both - 9/10
(3) Great reader of the game - Not his strongest point, but a decent one - 8/10
(4) Passing - I agree with you on this point, although not great at it, he's capable of spraying some decent passes - 7/10

From my assets for a DM Djourou is built for this role, it's his prefered position and he could pull it off perfectly.

Well, he can start there at the reserves and Carling Cup. Something Tells me that Eastmond and Coquelin will still do better than him.

:D

Cos he's a CB. Yeah he can probably do a job at DM when needed, so could Vermaelen I'm sure, but he is a CB! A position we are already very light in! And he's tall, and he's right footed, and he's a good partner for Vermaelen. He's clearly going to be in the first choice CB pairing in a year or so... thats why

Johan Poopoo. Always 2 seconds away from giving away a penalty, dangerous free kick or scoring an own goal. That guy has dopey written all over his face. If you could attach a speaker to his mind to hear what he's thinking - all day long it'd be "huh? huh? huh?"

:lmao:

I have never seen anyone looking more dazed in an arsenal shirt than him.

On other note, am I the only one that saw how Fabregas was playing with west ham players in the second half.. he sometimes held the ball for up to 2 minutes - ok a bit exaggeration, and dancing circles around them. lovely sight, I tell you.

Carling Cup = 360 minutes of football at most, then we'll get knocked out.

23 years old, playing in the reserves for Arsenal? Will he leave? Yes, if I was him I'd get away ASAP!

Now Sol's in his push for 3 minutes of football for the 1st team will be diminished, unless everyone else is injured.

Another excellent win.
I think Vermaelen will get his red card overturned, i don't think it was even a penalty.

Top of the league with 7 games to go........

The 3 match ban for a straight red is only for violent conduct. Like striking a player or a two footed tackle.

At least that was always my understanding.
This space used to be more fun...

So why wasn't Matty Upson sent off? deliberate handball in the penalty area, ref awards a penalty, Upson already on a yellow?
Wasn't Fab's shot towards the goal so therefore a goalscoring opportunity? Been bugging me all night.
Not seen the highlights yet - will watch them later with himself - it's skyplussed.

Don't think Vermaelen's red will be recinded because don't think Wenger will appeal it - what's the point if he'll get an extra match ban if unsuccessful? I believe it will only be a 1 match ban too.

Thought Atkinson was terribly inconsistent yesterday <sigh> seems to be a frequent complaint. Should have been a few more yellows for West Ham and by rights Sol should really have had a red, if not straight then second - think he got away with it yesterday.

Impressed with the fact that the lads didn't go to pieces and that they continued trying to attack. Playing 45 with 10 men isn't easy!

3 points tho will do nicely thank you very much! Here's hoping utd and chelsea stumble today! (Unlikely I know but you never know!)

great character again by the lads.. Denilson was impressive.. Clichy seems getting back to his best.. I thought the penalty could go either way..!! Its a bit harsh.. But u can't blame the ref for giving it.. Coz the linesman flagged for it.. If its a pen its a red card.. Now will vermaelen get a 3 match ban or a 1 match ban? I thought any straight red is a 3 match ban..
