Fabregas back for Bolton and Clichy close

By Richard Clarke

Arsène Wenger may be able to welcome back both Cesc Fabregas and Gael Clichy for the trip to Bolton on Sunday.

The Spaniard is expected to feature at the Reebok Stadium this weekend after shaking off a hamstring injury but the Frenchman's involvement is not so concrete. However, Clichy is fully fit again following a back problem and, in the words of the manager, is "looking sharp". The left back's last Arsenal appearance came in the north London derby on October 31.

Speaking on Wednesday lunchtime, Wenger was counting out Denilson for the first game against Bolton this week and the Brazilian's abdominal injury may sideline him for the return match at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday. However the problem is not long-term.

Nicklas Bendtner returned to the training ground last weekend and his groin injury has now been assessed. The results were positive and the Danish striker should be fit in a fortnight.

"Fabregas [is back]," Wenger told TV Online. "And we are very happy to have him back.

"Gael Clichy is available and he might be in the squad as well on Sunday. I don't want to go overboard with Gael because he has been out for a long time but he looks very, very sharp in training.

"As for Denilson, we'll have to assess his situation on Friday. At the moment I count him out. It is an abdominal muscle problem but we don't think it will be long term. He still has a chance to play at Bolton if not he should be, maximum, one more week.

"Nicklas Bendtner is two weeks [away]. He is making good progress but he has been out for seven or eight weeks now so he will need three or four games to be completely fit again. But he has made a big step forward in the last three or four days so we are quite optimistic for him."

This will be an interesting one with a few players back, notably Fab. Lets hope Bolton aren't on a high after landing their 'dream'(????!!!) manager...

We didn't think he would play on Sunday because he was suspended - that makes me think he has all the qualities to join Arsenal!

Clichy and Cesc back for the Bolton game

However the manager was more cautious about Clichy, who had been suffering from a back problem since the 3-0 against Tottenham ten weeks ago.

At Friday’s press conference, Wenger confirmed that Clichy would travel and did not rule out him starting.

“Cesc is back in the squad for Sunday and Gael is back as well,” said the manager. “He will be minimum on the bench.

“It's good to have him. With Gael we were uncertain for a while how long he would be out whereas Cesc we knew was short-term.”
