Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen on Arsene Wenger's angry half-time team-talk that inspired the Gunners' comeback: "I've never seen him before like that and we reacted very well. It was very important for us to win today - we have closed the gap a little bit and we are back in the race I think."

i hope he doesn't have to. let's face it, an in-form Torres would have buried that sitter early in the first half. likewise, Webb could have easily pointed to the spot after Gallas impeded Gerrard.

We could have been looking at a much more different scoreline right about now. Still our display in the 2nd half showed strength of character and we desperately needed to win this one, albeit in an ugly way.

3pts and we're back in the title race :arse fan:

sky are concentrating a bit too much on how much of a bad result it was for liverpool, and not enough on the fact that it's a great result for us, and puts us right in the race again.

Arshavin's interview before the game on SSN was absolutely hilarious.

Wenger told the boys they weren't fit to wear the Arsenal shirt, if they continued to play the way they were in the first half - Just want to clarify that, not that they weren't fit to wear it, full stop lol.

But him 'screaming like never before' as Fabregas recalled it, in the post-match interview, sounds good to me. He's beginning to realise it's not just about the pretty-play (the beautiful football), it's about steamrolling the opposition like "The Invincibles" used to.

I hated seeing some of the yellows we got tonight due to (IMHO and without Arsenal goggles) Crowd influence on Howard Webb; when we were bulldozing our opponents and getting booked I didn't mind as much BECAUSE we were pulling out f'n great results.

This is the Arsenal we need to be seeing again, tonight was nowhere near even a good performance for us, but hey if we can pull out wins like this when we're not doing our best. Watch us when we get back in-form.

Player ratings thread for this game is up

It's probably a good idea to consider both halves carefully for each player as there was some serious ying and yang today

A fantastic result for us. Liverpool may be riddled with crises but they played well in the first half and I feared for us at 1-0 down. Our "performance" in the first half was dreadful. No wonder Wenger went mad! The way we turned the game round was excellent. That's what you need to challenge for titles. Liverpool's heads dropped after Johnson's gift - £18m. What a purchase! Then Arshavin's wonder strike. If he hadn't scored, I wouldn't have known he was playing but that's what quality players do. It's been a great weekend for us. If we can win our game in hand, we're back level with Man Utd and only three points away from "Unstoppable Chelsea".
There's David O'Leary and big Willie Young, sending Rixy and Stapleton off on a run

they are being touted as 'unstoppable chelsea', but i don't think any team will ever match our invincibles record. too many good teams in the premiership these days that will take points off the top 4.

The smile on Wenger's face in this video is magical.

great result, with some of our best players out injured we've beaten a full strength liverpool side at anfield.
they really are having a dire season, 3 wins in 15 for them in all comps, woeful, and im loving it.

suddenly we're right back in the title race.
