Young Guns’ September Player of the Month Craig Eastmond has been rewarded for a fantastic month which included a run out in the Carling Cup by being named in Arsène Wenger’s travelling 18 for the trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers tomorrow.

The combative defensive midfielder is very much a surprise inclusion as the Gunners continue their title push with a 5.30pm kick off at Molineux Stadium. Eastmond has never been included in a Premier League squad and therefore the 18-year-old life-long Arsenal fan would be making his PL debut if he was brought on.

Interestingly Craig has been prefered to Francis Coquelin and Emmanuel Frimpong, both of whom were tipped to play for the first team by Under 18’s coach Steve Bould. Eastmond’s inclusion surely suggestions that he is in contention to fill the void left by Alexandre Song when the African Cup of Nations claims him during January.

Interesting, we were just talking about that in the J.E.T thread.

I hope he comes on even if it's just for 15 minutes.

As do i Inch, he looks the part and if he can come on and add some steel in the last minutes it could be good, even if its just to show we have got another English player here

I thought he was absolutely awesome against Liverpoo. I was very impressed, and shocked. So calm on the ball, strong and never bothered at all by onrushing oppo players.

By the way, as a side note, I've just been offered 3 tickets for this game if anyone wants one.....?
I can't go so there are 3 spare.

I'm surprised as well.
I always thought that Coquelin was the best DM that we have in the reserves but after watching Eastmond against the 'Poo I'm not so sure now.
Different type of player but very very capable.
Coquelin reminds me of Flamini the way he rushes around flying into sliding tackles but Eastmond reminds me of Song because he stays more central and just uses his strength to nick the ball away.
It's a fabulous headache for the boss to have really. :)

Iwelumo's out

Iwelumo damaged the metatarsal he fractured during Wolverhampton's pre-season tour to Australia.

The Scotland international started his first Barclays Premier League match of the new campaign against Stoke City last weekend and impressed during the 2-2 draw.

But Iwelumo suffered the setback after Stoke goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen and Wolves central defender Christophe Berra landed on his foot.

foot planted

"He has damaged the fracture site. He has not refractured the metatarsal so please don't go away and say 'It is broken' because he hasn't done that," said manager Mick McCarthy.

"He has unsettled it more than anything and he will be a few weeks out. It doesn't happen normally but Sorensen and Berra fell on him when he got his foot planted (in the ground).

"Where the actual fracture is and the metal screw goes in, it has been unsettled, disturbed, but not broken."

McCarthy added: "It is a big blow after all he has gone through. He played well last week at Stoke and to have him back was a real bonus.

"It is sad for him, the Stoke game was his first back in the Premier League and the Stoke game suited him, the physical nature of the game."

I hope the lads are motivated for this and that we don't go out feeling we have it won before kick off. Teams like Sheff utd, Stoke and Hull have done us after just coming up so there is no reason Wolves can't.

If we put in the effort then our quality should see us through comfortably but if not then we could be in trouble as Wolves will be well up for this.

As would i ghost, not likely though.

Right, 5 games on tonight, no Liverpool, Man Utd or Chelsea on till tomorrow.

Bets on what our MOTD place will be tonight?
