Your WC 'moment'

For me, you can't look past the end of the Ghana/Uraguay game. So much happening, so much to take in, and in the end Ghana were robbed of a Semi - Final place.

This was my moment as well. Ghana were the width of the crossbar away from being the first African side to reach the last four. Heartbreaking stuff!

My bias will show clean through here - end of the US-Algeria game with the last minute goal by Donovan. We were sitting at the pub (having skipped out on work) extremely tense, we were about to be sent home. It was unthinkable after the Slovakia robbery that we would not beat Algeria to get through. I was extremely tense.

Then the goal - the pub goes crazy, I'm hugging complete strangers, my tension released. I was so wound up my hands were still shaking 15 minutes later while trying to look at the menu to order lunch. 15 minutes after the game I was still shaking - its got to be my WC moment.

Ghana were robbed - very worthy moment as well. Loads of drama there too, just not as personal to me as the Donovan goal.

Your WC 'moment'

Postby Arsenal Tone » Tue Jul 13, 2010 5:19 am

When Podolski missed his penalty vs Serbia. I was on a course in a hotel and it was lunch time. A group of us took our deserts over to the tv that had been put up in the lounge area and just as everyone else was making their way back to the function room Germany got the penalty and missed it. We (a group of about ten teachers) were going mental cheering!

My World Cup moment was England showing how shite we are and how lucky that the French and the Itailians were as bad as us.
Hopefully that is the last time we see Terry, Lamps, Gerrard and others in an England shirt..

Scotland weren't at the world cup... shocking right?
So I didnt really have a world cup moment that sent me crazy but certainly one of the moments that made the tournament was South Africas first goal and Ghana missing that last minute penalty!

Tshabala scoring the opening goal for South Africa.
New Zealand scoring the last minute goal against Slovakia, and their draw against Italy.

there were a few other good bits, but those stand out for me.

edit: yeah, the handball for Uruguay against Ghana was a big one too.

Yessir. Probably the worst world cup to date taking away for humbling scenes I saw from the Africans at times.

Best moment - Korean player shedding tears during the national anthem before the Brazil game. Iconic!!

The end of the Ghana-Uruguay game was mental. Robert Green's fumble was pretty memorable. In retrospect it was the moment that England's campaign ran out of steam. When I was over there, I loved Germany's destruction of Argentina, especially Klose's second goal and being in a bar in Cape Town during South Africa v France. When SA scored their second goal the dream came alive briefly.
There's David O'Leary and big Willie Young, sending Rixy and Stapleton off on a run
