The Vuvuzela (annoying horn Thingy)

Postby Briggsy » Mon Jun 14, 2010 8:51 am

There has been calls to ban this annoying horn at the world cup and I totally agree seriously its hard enough to watch a game let alone with out that annoying din!

World Cup organisers spoke of the possibility of banning the vuvuzela from inside stadiums yesterday after complaints from broadcasters, players and fans.

The noise from the plastic horns has been likened to a herd of stampeding elephants or the drone of a thousand bees.

Local fans say the honking horn is part of South African football-supporting tradition, and the vuvuzela plays the part of a 12th man for the Bafana Bafana team.

Critics, however, say it is a danger to hearing and drowns out the singing loved by so many international supporters.

Others say it is just plain annoying.

Fans arriving at O.R. Tambo Airport in Johannesburg are greeted straight of the plane with loud blasts echoing around the arrivals hall.

Over-enthusiastic blowers have woken many a travelling fan before day even breaks.

Some South African shopping malls have already banned the trumpets and World Cup organising chief Danny Jordaan has spoken of the possibility of banning them from inside stadiums.

Asked if he would get rid of them, he told BBC Sport: “If there are grounds to do so, yes. We did say that if any land on the pitch in anger we will take action.

“We’ve tried to get some order. We have asked for no vuvuzelas during national anthems or stadium announcements. It’s difficult but we’re trying to manage the best we can.”

Meanwhile, police praised England fans for being on their best behaviour during the team’s opening World Cup game against the USA.

About 10,000 travelling England supporters descended on the small mining town of Rustenburg for the evening match.

Police said there was a carnival atmosphere throughout the day and no arrests were made

I'm against banning them.

I don't really notice the noise now.

FIFA have announced that it won't be banned. Just waiting for some linkage to be published.

How about turning the volume down?

It is annoying, but after a while you blank it out

The players have complained that they can't hear each other, plus they often cannot hear the refs whistle, so for that reason alone they should be banned.
On a personal level I would ban them just because they are annoying, plus anyone caught blowing one would be instantly put to death.

fantastic to have a sound of the world cup.i still remember the sounds of west germany 74.the tickertape of argentina 78,the waves at mexico 86.
so much dull football throughout the season, international football may have lost some of its gloss, but the world cup is still a fantastic tournament and i can,t get enough of it.the xbox will always be there but the world cup is every 4 years.went to the 82 world cup and never really had a desire to go to another 1 but i would love to be in south africa now.

No idea about 74, we didn't have a television.

But 78 (in black and white) was a feast of tickertape! And that tune as well!

Spain 82 (by now in colour) was all about the songs

Mexico 86 with the waves

Italia 90 was when we all started getting the flags out

USA 94 was just "different" I was on holiday in Corfu through most of that, and I've never met so many Irish people in my life, and that includes a holiday in Ireland!

France 98 was within touching distance, but I just couldn't afford it (Single)

Korea/Japan 02 was all about noise as well (Married with 2 kids)

Germany 06 was another in touching distance, but 4 kids said otherwise! (Married with 4 kids)
