Digital SLR cameras - advice required

Talk about mobile phones, DVDs, PCs or anything "techy"

A bridge camera has near enough all the settings of a DSLR but a fixed lens. It bridges the gap between compact point and shoot cams and a DSLR hence the name.

The 550D is also a superior DSLR to tge 1100D.

For a £300 ish budget i would go for a Nikon D90 kit, if you want to spend a tiny bit more the Nikon D5100 isn't beaten by anything else under a grand IMO.

If Inch is offering a lens up though go for the 550D and spend the leftover money getting a Tripod, its an essential piece of kit.

Right, that's pretty much made up my mind. I'll look for a 550D and once I do I'll get hold of Inch.

Cheers Gunns.

No problem.

If you do get into it (Or even if you don't) go for a Redsnapper Tripod, either the RS284 or 283. Forget Manfrotto or any other proper Tripod as they start in the hundreds for a decent one, the Redsnapper is about £60.

And I've seen this term "bridge camera"; is that the term used for 'bridge between entry-level cameras and professional quality'?

Yes it is better.

Sorry I've been a bit misleading. Technically 'bridge' cameras are somewhere between point-and-shoot snappy cameras and an entry-level DSLR.
I was talking in more vague terms about the 550d being a sort of bridge as in a halfway house between entry level DSLRS (e.g. 1100d) and the full pro cameras (e.g. 5D mk III). Shouldn't have used the word bridge.

Yeah this is all true.
The D90 is a great camera although personally I like my DSLRs to be as lightweight as possible and the D90 is much heavier than the other ones we've mentioned.

Some care about weight and some don't. Best thing to do is go down your local Jessops and cop a feel.
Btw, I saw this special offer today, it's a good offer but outside the £300 budget: http://www.groupon.co.uk/deals/national ... 262&a=1664

P.s. Didn't know you were into this Gunn? Get your flickr out c'mon.

I was hoping someone else would show their hand first. ;)

But if you insist...
I actually moved my stuff over to Zenfolio recently because it's a better site.
Ok so PG is into wildlife so I'll start with that:

Good stuff inch.

My pics are nowhere near as good as yours or hers but i'm uploading some of my favourites to photobucket and i'll post a link later.
