Firefox 4 Released

Postby ManicDefender » Wed Mar 23, 2011 6:26 am

Just to let you know the final version of Firefox 4 has been released. It's running so much faster here

If you click Help > Check for updates. You should have two updates. Do one, then perform the step again.

Alternatively just download it from here:

Bit late as I got fed up with it ages ago and switched to Chrome.

However, what are the pros and cons? Anyone care to give a review?

I have been a Firefox user for years and downloaded the beta version of this a few months ago.

The finished product is basically the same, with less bugs of course. Been using this one for about an hour and its pretty quick, will have to get used to the layout, haven't figured how to move my bookmarks tab from the right over to the left.

Yeah it's much quicker than FF3. Definitely load up and going between various websites feels faster. FF Personas still work and so do most addons.

However the UI does take getting used to, it has more of a google chrome feel to it now. Couldn't stand it at first but getting used to it :D

The menu bar is now hidden under the word 'Firefox'. Click this and the menu will pop down, giving you access to most features. However you can change this by right clicking the top of the browser and then clicking 'Menu Bar'.

Another little tip if you don't like the position of the tabs:

Again right click at the top of the browser and click 'Tabs on top'. This will then move them under the address bar which looks much better :D

Okay this might sound really bad but I will continue

If I attempt to upgrade to Firefox 4 will Firefox 4 automatically over-ride my existing Firefox or will it be completely independent form Firefox 3?

It will upgrade your FF3.

It will keep your bookmarks, cookies, everything. It will also check if your old addons and extensions are compatible with FF4.

Only thing i've noticed is, forums such as this. FF4 refuses to keep me signed in. Remembers my details but won't auto log me in.

Has that been solved yet, I am considering upgrading to FF4 but I want my auto log ins to stay?

I have been using Firefox/Iceweasel 4 since it's release (on Debian, though) and it has managed to keep me logged in to this forum. No problems whatsoever with any of the phpBB forums I visit.
