I was thinking about getting one... but being the tight wad that I am I decided not to, because it is cheaper to buy used paperback versions of the books I want.
This space used to be more fun...

Definitely.

The screen is not a normal LCD one, its unique in that it appears like the page of a book, it is just as easily readable in pitch darkness as it is in bright sunshine.

Add to that the fact it has a resource like Amazon, who have probably the most vast array of books anywhere, who make it, massive battery life, compact but a good size, and most top selling books are 75% less than retail....

You can also get a ton of older titles for free.

I love reading and i would never see it as a replacement for my bookshelf but lets face it...ever tried to read on a bus, train or when you are camping or something? Its a nightmare.

Had one, gave it away. Good for reading only, even though you have the ability to surf the net. But don't bother with that.
The screen reminds me of etch-a-sketch(?), which just infuriated me.
Needs to be jazzed up a touch, for me.
Cos i'm shallow like that. :)

Wanted to buy one, but there isn't an official version for sale in Asia, specifically Singapore.
Means i can't buy books and stuff from Amazon and download them.
But i would buy one...esp now the USD is at an all-time low...

What didn't you liked in it dude? The screen was not good enough?

The screen reminded me of etch-a-sketch, a childrens' toy from years gone by.

Got one for my bday in January and would never go back now.

I'm a very avid reader and I've got over 400 books on my Kindle now (don't ask :hiding:) and I love it.

Gza, you say that the Kindle is good for reading only? That's what it was made for lol... The 'Net part of it, is still in the experimental stage atm; I'm pretty sure they'll be doing upgrades for it soon enough.

Jay if you are going to buy something like that get an iPad. Seriously, like gza I know a couple of people who had kindles and when iPads came out they fell like red headed stepchildren. None of them kept them for very long.

Well if all you want it for is reading then a kindle is probably the way to go. IPads are seriously bloody cool though. I badly want one but I am not allowed to get one. =(

See I don't think Gza's saying he had 'issues' as such, just comparing the screen to that of an Etch-A-Sketch which tbh I never had issues w/ growing up anyway

I've found one problem and it was probably w/ certain formatted books and that was the lines/words weren't formatted properly.

Sorry mate, don't mean to be rude - I'm also assuming you still have me on "block" for some unknown reason so won't be able to reply to this anyway but... You're not allowed to get one? You strike me as being of a mature and experienced age - Do you not work? Your money's your own no?

Really...?

I've had worse nightmares.
Why is it hard to read on a train or camping? I don't get it.
I would've thought it'd be easier to read a book on a tube because you don't have to constantly worry about someone snatching it.

As for iPads, they look cool but personally I like to type on a proper keyboard so I'd rather have one of those mini-laptop things.
