Recommend a good wireless router?

Postby Forest » Wed Dec 22, 2010 7:13 pm

Anyone recommend a good one? My auntie said the guy in Curries said the most expensive one was the best without knowing what the spec meant, something like 300x300x2 :dizzy:

Basically they got one pc and kids 2 laptops, on Virgin upto 20meg broadband.

Hmmm pretty sure they should have sent you a new one. We got a shiny new Virgin branded Modem about a year ago in the post. I didn't get a router though.

I have a Netgear router, it's pretty good, I'd recommend

You only get new routers from companies that take over others at the expense of taking out a 12 month contract with them.

And if you are still on an NTL branded router then jeeeeez, no wonder you are having trouble.

Get on the phone to Virgin and moan a bit, they cave really easily.

Yeah we have 3 computers in the house and my PS3 is also on the wireless and it's fine when all are on at the same time. Most decent routers would be fine. It's a 1gb network one, cost around £100 2 years ago

Usually the definition of a good wireless router will be the ability to cover the area with good signal strength.
I fancy the brand Buffalo, which is pretty good in signal strength.

Hmmm

I've got a Netgear DV834GV, wireless with VOIP and it was about $129 AUD (about 75 quid), it was pretty good but I had to do a ton of hunting around to get my internet on my PS3 back (change the DNS numbers)

1 PC and 2 laptops covers it really, just write down the SSID, WEP and all other codes down, it's a fair bit to remember!

We got Netgear WPN842, had it a few years now, so its pretty old in technology terms, but it does the job.
Obvioulsy its connected to the main pc with ethenet cable, but it also runs the internet connection for my sons PC, laptop & PS3, dont have no probs with lag when its being used to the max. ;)
