Anyway back on topic.
I think you have to have a balanced view with Bendtner (or any player for that matter).
There's certain things he brings to the team and other things he doesn't and probably never will.
The first thing you have to get over is that he's not Thierry and never will be.
What he is though, is a type of player that we don't have anywhere else in our squad.
Imo he's an old fashioned traditional CF who gives us a plan B.
When the sideways passing isn't working, put a few crosses in the box and see what happens, play the percentages game.
His stats prove that it works.
One of the best examples of how he changes our game is when Arshavin was forced to play up front on his own for a few weeks while Eduardo, RVP and Bendy were all injured.
I know that playing Arsh up front on his own was never a good idea but when Bendy came back we suddenly looked like a different team.
We could play long or short balls forward to him, either on the ground or aerially and they would stick. His strength and size are very useful.
Similar to other target men, you could just hit him with the ball and he'd either chest it down and lay it off to someone else or flick it on to a runner.
We can't work that way with our other strikers. This is where AW is clever having five strikers (inc. Theo) who all have different ways of playing, many weapons to the Arsenal.
Bendy has strength and can shield the ball and hold it up when necessary, but he also has aerial ability and scores plenty with his head.
I can't understand those who say his passing isn't good when it clearly is. He's a great passer of the ball and if you hadn't noticed that then the stats will tell you.
You don't get 5 assists in ten games by being a bad passer of the ball. His assist for Theo against Barca at home is a good example.
Having said all that I wouldn't dream of saying he's the finished article. Aside from Messi no-one is at that age.
He's got a lot more work to do but his attitude is right so we know he will do that work.
He's here to learn and he's the first to admit that. This whole idea of him being arrogant is over exaggerated imo.
He can dribble at a low pace but he needs to work on his high speed dribbling imo and as ChVint says, losing his marker with his first touch.
Sometimes he needs too many touches to kill the ball but that can be worked on.
I don't agree with those who say he's only good against the smaller teams. He caused Manure all kinds of problems last season and he scored (and had two assists) against Barca, they don't come much bigger than that.
Probably the best compliment you can pay to him is that despite the fact that he's our second (or third) choice striker, we're still challenging for the title with him leading the line.
We've had no RVP or Eduardo (mentally) for months on end and yet we're chasing Utd and the Chavs all the way.
How many teams can you say that about? Could N'gog do that? Could Berbatoss? Could Kalou/Malouda?
I won't label him as superb, shit, great, average, awesome or anything else at all until he's 24 because at the moment he's still learning but you have to say that he's doing very well for a kid of his age and long may it continue.
