Wenger didn't see Gallas' photo in the paper but managed to see Bendtner's.

Why were Arsenal so quick to punnish Bendtner (who immediately appologised) when Gallas, who didn't make such a humble apology so soon after, seemed to get off lightly (even keeping his captaincy until he criticised team mates in the press a month later).

The plot thickens.....

Wenger - Bendtner pictures were a 'set-up'

By Richard Clarke

Arsène Wenger believes Nicklas Bendtner was the victim of a ‘set-up’ this week.

Hours after Arsenal’s Champions League exit, the Danish striker was pictured coming out of a nightclub and being bundled into a car with his trousers falling down in the process.

His manager admits to being unhappy at the incident and has fined the player. But, at his pre-match press conference, Wenger was quick to point that action was taken because Bendtner had gone out – not because of the specific nature of the photographs.

“I was angry,” said the Frenchman. “But he has been set up.

“People make the story that he was drunk. He was not drunk. He did not put his trousers down, somebody did it for him and somebody was posted there with a camera.

“I fined him not for that. I fined him because he should not have gone out.

“But he's 20 years old and, in fairness, what I like with Bendtner is that he is honest enough and fair enough and intelligent enough to realise he made a mistake.”

I doubt it. Wenger's just defending his player. Can't imagine a massive conspiracy involving the press intentionally yanking Bendtner's trousers down. All sounds just a bit too odd. "Pants-gate"?

It wouldn't be the first time the press have done that.
The tabloids do this sort of thing all the time.
One of my old mate's dad is a QC and the Sun arranged for his PA to throw water in his face while he was addressing the jury in court so that they could run a story about him having an affair with her.
Sometimes they just decide to go after someone that they don't like.

It's a bit like the whole Max Clifford thing. A boyband pop star calls him and says "What can I do Max, people think I'm gay?"
The next thing you know he is photographed stumbling out of a nightclub with two scantily clad chicks on each arm.
What a coincidence that there were Sun photographers waiting outside a tiny nightclub in some back street at 5am....
